Husker, i hope you realize that you just swapped a questionable dichotomy for one that is false altogether.

Pagan. Respect for humanity.

And the idea that if you don't have respect for dogma you won't have respect for humanity is debunked by the simple fact that so many in mainstream religions claim Humanism is "Satanism"... yet Humanists have a strong respect for Humanity without dogma.

Catholic here. You must respect dogma as long as it is in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ. Anyone can write any dogma they want, but if it doesn't follow Jesus, it's useless.

Dogma comes from the teachings of Christ. These are foundational rules that cannot be disputed, such as the belief in the Trinity, the necessity of Christ's sacrifice for our salvation, the forgiveness of sins through baptism, and so forth. It is from these teachings that we learn a greater respect and love for Jesus, and each other.

What you need to more accurately focus on is Jesus Christ. From Him comes respect for humanity, and the dogma that teaches us this.

I'm an atheist, so respect for humanity is more important to me. I do not respect any dogma that says humans are lowly, worthless, evil creatures deserving of eternal punishment.

God said we should put Him first in our lives, and also show kindness and forgiveness for our fellow man, even our enemies.
As for religion, I don't believe in religion for they are man-made and Satan-endorsed. They rely on useless rituals and sacraments. Faith in Christ and what He did at the cross and rose three days later ( and becoming born again as He said in John 3:3) is the ONLY way to salvation. He died for us all, even brother Hovind mockers.
Btw, Kent did wrong and he's paying for it. Christians will fall into sin(non-believers DIVE into it). As long as he repented of his tax evasion to the Lord, that's ALL that matters. We're not put on this earth to please man. The HUGE number of people that were saved by one of brother Hovind's lectures, dvds,tapes..etc..etc is a blessing indeed! We saw his son Eric in October and the place was overflowing with people longing to hear the truth. Praise God and bless the Hovind family.

Btw, I highly recommend the debate dvd where Kent makes 3 berkeley professors look foolish. What a blessing he is indeed by showing all the lies and contradictions of EVILution.

Reformed/Presbyterian tradition

This is a dilemma of false choices. If you have no respect for dogma, you will not respect humanity. Hitler claimed to have care for the soul of Germany, but he would not obey the command, "thou shalt not murder." Hence, no higher belief to which you are accountable, you will not respect humanity, period.
