My son told me the other day he hates life. I asked him why he said nothing. Then he said he wants to kill himself by putting his finger in a light socked. I'm taking him to get help once a week. I just wanted to know if there is any ideas on how to take care of a kid like this.

without any delay, take him to a psychotherapist. this is a serious issue, which can not be tackled by this forum.

I wish I could help, but I am in the same boat. My 7 year old says he wants to die or knock off others who irritate him. I really think that a lot of these behaviors are for attention, but I am also avidly seeking help. Is he displaying any other negative behavior? doing bad in school, acting out more, did anything change in your lives recently. I wish you the best, my only advice is to be strong and talk to your child about the beauty of life, and when he does says things like that simply say "I am very sorry you feel like that honey, but do you know how much mommy and daddy? and your friends would miss you?" There is a place we have in WA that I am taking my son, called Behavioral Health Resources, they help treat children and adolescents for mental health problems, and they also offer family counseling because obviously your son is not the only one dealing with a problem. Maybe you could do research in your area and find a similar program. I really hope y ou are able to get to the root of the problem and that you and your son will be ok. I wish you the best!

Find something that you and he can get into. My nephew had some of the same thoughts and feelings when he was 6. His dad was a dead beat and left, so I started picking him up every once in a while to go to the park. I got him interested in model rockets that we could shoot off together. He is 9 know and still into rockets. He just needed to have a project that helped him build a bond with someone. Good luck and GOD Bless!

Your son is probably depressed about something and is very up set also he may be going thourgh a stag maybe not. Getting help is the right thing to do but what you really should do is sit down in the living room with him with his fav. Drink and talk to him and keep doing this like 3 out five days in a week. :)

Your are doing the right thing. My son told me the same thing. It came about when my youngest was born. He is seeing someone once a week as well. I've also got him into things in likes to do. Like art classes, soccer, having his friends over, and spending more time with him doing what he likes to do. He is a much happier kid. Good luck to you

I think you are already doing the best thing by getting him therapy. I have a 7 yr old daughter and I don't know how I would react to a statement like that. I think the best thing you can do is follow the advice of your son's therapist and let him know that he is loved more than anything! ( which I'm sure you already do) Good luck!

u are already doing what u can....9 times out of ten he is getting this behavior from SOMEWHERE ELSE !! if he is seven, he is going to elementary school right? that means he could be in contact with kids as old as 12. my friends son is 8 and says the craziest things but he goes to a private religious school and eats lunch with kids as old as 17!! also i have a cousin who was very young and said disturbing things and we found out he was getting it from an older cousin on his mothers side of the family that we knew nothing about. its about influence, i would find out where he gets it from and make sure he knew that it makes you feel scared or hurt when he says these things. he may not know the true impact of his words.

First thing don't over react. This will only re enforce this negative actions.
Get some help. Your library or on line will have tons of books and articles on child behavior.

use common sense. This child is going to test you with everything his little mind can come up with.
Keep cool but don't ignore the threat as you will have to live with yourself if something happens. Kids are Kids. You probably forgot how you were..Its normal for kids to test their parents..

I have a 7 years old daughter too, she don't know what means suicide, she plays and she is happy. I think maybe he has a big anger inside, you must to search the reason why.

Make sports... he can take the anger there
Make arts... arts are a beautiful scent.... he can see life with another point of view
Talk with him...
Go to a church, maybe he needs a spiritual direction!

Regards and good luck

my heart goes out to you. my son was the same way. good for you getting him help. keep a close eye on him just in case. repeat several times a day how much you love him and need him and how badly you'll feel if something happens to him. my son found something that really interested him and feels better about himself. he's now 27. we think he might have Asberger's syndrome. depression is one of the characteristics. good luck!
