Yes, it does hurt but you get some meds that will make you sleepy. You can talk but you sound kinda funny like you have to force the words out. My friends got a kick out of making me say funny words (try saying "monkey")! Actually, the thing that hurts the worst believe it or not is your tongue. The doctors have to hold it down while they do the procedure and that kinda hurt (not trying to scare you, it was just how often does your tongue hurt?). I wouldn't recommend ice cream because it will create excess saliva, try mashed potatoes, they were the best thing ever! Don't worry, you'll feel better in a couple days!

I had my tonsils out when I was 21. It didn't hurt too bad. I could talk...but it was kind of raw back there so I didn't do too much talking lol. Cool things help like ice chips and stuff and you do have to eat soft, medium to cool temperatured food for awhile. It will be fine.

For me it didn't really hurt unless I was eating hard or dry food. But it feels really weird. It kind of feels like there is something stuck in your throat. But it's probably just swollen. You can talk but it might hurt for a few days to do so, and your voice won't be pretty.
