Laundry room cause cat poop is stinky.Get a covered litterbox and put a small throw rug or bristle rug underneath so when the cat comes out of the box he wipes his paws on the rug, the litter will get stuck in the rug and not thrown all over. When you clean it every day or every other (highly recommended for a 1 cat household and 1 cat litterbox) shake the rug in the garbage and then every week or 2 take the vaccum and put the hose attachment on and suck under the edges of the washer and dryer. Cant go wrong!!! I have 4 cats and 4 boxes but i have a basement that they can go to.

We have a spare bedroom in our house that we use as a home office.
There's a huge closet in there with nothing it, so we took the door off and keep all three of our litter boxes in that closet.

The laundry room sounds like the best option to me.
To prevent the cats from throwing litter everywhere we found something called Jumbo covered litter boxes.
We don't use the cover on two of them...my females won't use a covered box, but left the cover on for the male because that's what he prefers.
The front of the box is lower so that can get in with ease but the side and back are high which prevents the litter from going everywhere.

Just one tip, if you decide to put any kind of mat in front of the litter box, don't use one with a rubber backing...for some reason the smell of the rubbing backing can have an offensive odor to some cats and they'll use the mat instead of the box.

Good luck and congrats on your new home.

I have 3 cats and live in a house that has very small rooms. I found the greatest thing ever a few years ago. I bought a child's plastic toy box and put my litter box in there. The cats go in it with no problem. One of them scratches the litter out of the box sometimes but the toy box collects it all. Then when I clean the litter box, I just sweep up the loose litter and spray the inside with Windex to clean. I spent $50.00 on this toy box and it's the best $50.00 I've ever spent! I keep the box in my kitchen. It has a flat top and I put plants on there to make it look nice.

How many cats do you have? It's recommended to have one litter box per cat. I'd keep one in the laundry room in a box to catch litter spill over and one in the upstairs bath on a bath mat or something to keep the loose litter off the tile. Then you can shake the mat back into the litter box to clean it. If your boxes don't have covers, get some, they really help control the mess.

When I had a litter box it was kept in the laundry room.......there are litter boxes that have detachable lids that allow the cat to get in and do their business.....but litter doesnt fly everywhere. I had one....also if you can afford that then get a cardboard box one bigger than your litterbox and put the litter box inside it then cut out a little hole big enough for the cat to get in and out. It really works.....then just attach one of those little sticky airfresheners to the side to keep down tha smell. Also a good investment for an apartment is a dust buster........a small hand vac with a long attachment to get in small corners and tight spots......incase kitty litter does happen to get out because when they get out it is always likely that some will come off their feet when they climb out anyway. The second bathroom downstairs could be a good place too if there is a little area out of the way.......anyway good luck and I hope I helped you at all!

I have a cubby under my main bathroom sink. I keep it there because the floor is tile. Sometimes a cat will track the litter out of the box. Sometimes that litter may have some urine on it & then it's in your carpet. So I just suggest anywhere there is tile. As far as it bothering guests. I purchased the litter box from WalMart that has the top on it & also have a door, therefore you guest nor you have to see it each time you go to the restroom. It only cost about $20. I also mix Baking powder with the litter to help with Odor.

Definitely laundry room. Use some of the methods as suggested by other answers. However, i find the scoopable cat litter is easy to pick up with the vac and also prevents the smell better. Thank goodness i now have a doggie door that the cats use to go out in yard! But have been there and know.

I don't have as much room as you do so the only available "space" was along a wall in my kitchen. Okay so I know that sounds gross but I can use a broom on the linoleum floor and also the vaccuum. I have a covered litter box in order to keep the mess to a minimum.

I agree that the laundry room is probably a good place; it's out of the way and will provide some privacy for your cat. And PLEASE do not keep moving it around; this can upset your cat and cause behavior problems (such as going wherever he/she wants).

My aunt has the almost same set up as you. She put hers in the half bath with a rubber mat underneath it. It works pretty well for her. When my cat was alive for his 14 years, we kept his box in the laundry room again with a mat underneath it. To keep litter out from under the washer and dryer, just sweep the mat every time you clean the box and/or get a swiffer, they work wonders!

I keep mine in the bathroom. The tile floor makes for easy clean up. I'm able to put mine in the bottom of the linen closet that's in the spare bathroom.

The laundry room is a good idea. With a high sided or enclosed box the litter doesn't get everywhere either.
