I'm putting crown molding up in my house and the crown is 'brilliant white' while the base boards and other trim work around doors is a little 'off white'. Should I try to match the paint on the crown molding to the baseboards or will it look good if the crown molding is white?

It won't look odd at all. It breaks it up from the rest of the room and makes a vocal point. It will look nice and I think you'll be glad you did it this way.

I don't know if it will look odd or not but the goal is usually to have all moldings match. I would paint them the same color.

Match the trim. but why white? Use white only if the walls are a wonderful color that you love. Otherwise paint the trim an eyecatching color for a bit of pizzazz.
