My boyfriend just bought a car outright (from his Uncle) for his daughter who is turning 16 in 4 months.

His daughter does not live with him, she lives with her mother 1 hour away and visits her dad every 2 weeks or so.

Question: what is the best way to title/register this car? In her name, her dad's name? The insurance for the car: can it be under her mother's policy (with her as a listed driver) if the car is titled/registered in the daughter's name? Can or should it be under the daughter's own and separate policy entirely? (I don't think that is possible at 16?....)

Trying to avoid daughter having to be insured on her dad's policy.

Please advise, this is in Florida.

Thanks!

the insurance can be under anyone's policy, it doesnt matter who actually owns the car. I would defnitely NOT get a separate insurance policy for the daughter, it would be too expensive.

your best bet would be to title the car under either dad or mom, and get the insurance under mom's policy.

First of all - driving for young people is terrible in Florida... The DMV (department of mental vampires) will suck every ounce of enthusiasm out of your entire being....

That being said, yes - register the car in her name if she will be the one driving it.... she will get lots of tickets or at least harrassment for driving a car that is not registered to her. (also, she will be more inclined to make wise decisions if it is under HER name).

Secondly, you should put her on the insurance of whoever she lives with... it will be expensive for a 16 year old.
She should not be on an insurance plan with people she does not share an address with.... it's far less confusing that way. One bill- one address. Keep it simple.

Hope this helps!

this is what grandparents do. It does not make any experience because of the fact the regulations are complete wastes of money. you will be able to desire to insure toddlers because of the fact they regrettably have untimely deaths besides (and don't get loose funerals), yet assurance might properly be achieved with a rider on your guy or woman existence assurance. She pays for the assurance, so confident, she gets the proceeds till she named somebody else the beneficiary. It shouldn't aggravate you, yet your companion's mom ought to comprehend that she's throwing her funds away.
