Honestly, it can be. It isn't as bad as a root canal or having the tooth pulled entirely but yes there is some pain involved. How much pain depends on you're own definition of extreme pain or minimal pain ( also known as your pain threshold ) If you have a high tolerance it wont be all that bad if you have a low one it can seem like an eternity of suffering.

Also depending on how much anesthetic (such as Novocain) you are given and how your body reacts to it, you, may feel little or no pain at all. only the drill vibrations.. .it basically comes down to the individual person...

Good Luck!

I just had 2 cavities filled within the last week. They numb your mouth and it really does not hurt at all. My dentist put some numbing gel on the inside of my mouth where he put the needle in and you don't even feel it. Well, I think it;s the sound that makes you nervous. The technology has come so far, it is just so much better than years past.

It's not that painful getting it done, but more of after. I suggest getting a sonicaire. They are expensive but I got one a couple years ago, and I have not had a cavity since.

I've always felt that the drilling was preferable to the pain of the rotting tooth.

Depends on how deep the cavity is. But if the dentist gives you novocaine, you will be fine.

If you have a good dentist, he/she will numb the area with novacaine. This will definitely help
