Is this really the most appropriate punishment? Think about it. Try to imagine billions of people being sliced, boiled, burned, baked and crushed for millions of years with no rest. Imagine the screaming, the blood, the noises. Now tell me why God would allow that. It is the sickest thing I can possibly imagine.

You don't get it. Yes, you supposedly have a choice, but GOD DECIDES WHAT THE OPTIONS ARE. He could have made hell less sick and people still would not want to go there. Do you think more people would want to go there if the torture lasted 1,000 years instead of forever?

I know all of this is not in the bible, but many of you think of hell this way anyway. If I have made anyone realize there can't be a hell like then I will be happy. I think many people are afraid of this version of Hell and don't even know about the "Hell=Grave" thing.

LOL - What you describe is not even in the Bible. The idea you have just described has its roots in pagan Greece and Rome, which was handed down to the Catholic Church, which was handed down to the Protestants. It is not true and has nothing to do with Scripture, but people have believed it for so long, they now actually think that's what the Bible says.
So what DOES the Bible say? It tells us, for one thing, that Hell does not currently exist. It won't exist until after the Millennium. At that point, the wicked dead of all ages will be resurrected to be judged (on the surface of this Earth, not some "netherworld"), and then fire will come down from Heaven and consume them. They will not be tortured forever; they will be immediately consumed, never to exist again. This is what the Bible says "Hellfire" is. You may have heard the terms "eternal fire" or eternal destruction". Destruction denotes finality. Is a building in an eternal state of being "destroyed"? No. It is destroyed, and it is done with. The effects are eternal - that building will never exist again. Likewise with the wicked. The Bible also talked about Sodom and Gomorrah being burned with an "eternal fire". Are Sodom and Gomorrah still burning today? Of course not. But the EFFECTS are eternal - Sodom and Gomorrah no longer exist, and will never exist again.

I think this entire question is posed incorrectly. The Bible doesn't have anything about what are you talking about in it. It doesn't even have the word hell. The word hell is a English construct that takes three different Greek words and mislabels them all as hell.
I suggest that you go online and look for the passages that contain the word hell, and do a bit of research on what the words are. Wikipedia has an ok article on the greek words that are used.
A free online Bible that lets you see different translations is available at www.blueletterbible.org . As someone who can read the original Ancient Greek, I suggest you use the Young's literal translation, which is available on that site. The default is KJV.

God didn't make hell so barbaric but the churches did to make people attend church out of fear all for financial gain. All go to hell at death. The original Hebrew word was Sheol and the Greek word was Hades, properly translated they mean: the grave or a pit.Another word also translated as hell was Gehenna(Greek),this is an actual place now known as the Hinnom Valley in Jerusalem. This is a place that always had a fire and they burnt trash, animal carcasses, and live babies were sacrificed to molech the great owl god. Look at a map its on there. In Psalm 16:10, & 49:15 David knew he was going to hell (grave) and would be resurected from it.Many of the older Bibles such as Geneva properly translated these words as grave or pit. It is impossible to have three totally different words and translate them all as hell. In the 1600's when the KJV Bible was made ,the meaning of the word hell was to put in the ground so when they changed the wording to hell they understood what it meant. If you look up Gehenna in Websters dictionary today you will see it tells you the same thing I said. Apparently its to difficult for most Christians to actually look up the meaning of a word, they prefer to listen to the lies that their preacher spews from the pulpit. My God will put you in hell when you die,the grave, and regardless of your beliefs or how you lived you will be resurected for judgement. To receive eternal life you must know Christ as saviour, if not you will be thrown into the lake of fire Rev. 20:14, this is the second death, where people are consumed instantly and permanently. No eternal suffering and torment.I am a Christian and I think its a shame that churches use these kind of scare tactics to keep people in church. Look at below website for many other anti-church / pro-God topics.

Being "sliced, boiled, burned, baked and crushed for millions of years with no rest" is not mentioned anywhere in the Bible. There are actually 3 different words that people translate as "hell" in the Bible, Sheol, Hades, and Gehenna. Sheol/Hades refer to the common grave. Gehenna however, was given its name after a large, always burning trash dump. (Places in Bible explanations/prophecy are often given the names of places known during the time period, to indicate their traits) Gehenna is referred to in Revelation as a "lake of fire." Most religions have taken this comparison to mean that hell is a place where you burn/suffer endlessly, however this is incorrect. God is loving, and no crime can actually merit torture for eternity. Gehenna, being a large burning pit, effectively was the end of anything you threw in it. Something could not be retrieved once it was tossed - it burned, and it was gone. Likewise, Gehenna represents a final death, a death from which no ressurection is available... Ceasing to exist now and forever.
Unfortunately wrapping the terms hades, sheol, and Gehenna into one word, "hell", incorrectly paints a picture as this fiery destination in far more contexts than it was meant to.
Hope this helps, feel free to email me if you'd like to discuss the topic further.

The idea of an Eternally burning hell is not a Biblical idea. You don't find those ideals in the Bible. Those who haven't chosen God at the end of a 1000 year period on Earth (those saved are 1000 years in Heaven) will be destroyed once for all. They just won't exist anymore, not being tortured for the rest of eternity.

Just keep listening to those Bubba Preachers. They think that time has frozen since the Bible was written. They also think that the Bible was originally written in English.
Now about Hell: It does not fit God's personality. Ergo if it did exist it was created by Satan. But After Jesus returned to Planet H (Heaven), the COG (council of Government) disbanded Hell, and limited Satan to just his sales pitch for disharmony.
Disharmony? Hey we are back to the Bubba Preachers again.
added: Dear "Bis" -- Clear conscience? Now, that is a good idea. Why didn't I think of that? Oh, I know why not. Sunday school didn't teach the "science" part of "conscience" -- They just taught the "con" part.
Added: Why are we pondering this so much? We have a "child of God" right here on this panel; let's ask her.
Whoops! Guess not. She seems to be giving Paul's Rhetoric.
Added: Dear "preys'" - Exacto opposito"
Dear "luvd" - Please cite the scriptures where it says those wonderful things. (kinda serious) - You will not let us e-mail you, so please e-mail me. cwaynethornton@yahoo.com -- I would appreciate the information.

Our loving Creator made what the KJV calls hell but it is only the place where all who die are buried, and soon all those in hell (grave) will be resurrected back to life and given the opportunity to live forever here on earth.
"And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell (the grave) delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works." Rev 20:13
Hell and death itself will soon be gone forever
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." Rev 20:14
Satan started that lie in the garden of Eden, that when you die, you do not really die, but keep on living, but that is not what the Bible teaches.
It teaches that the dead are conscious of nothing at all. Ecclesiastes 9:5 Therefore they cannot feel, see, or hear anything.
It teaches that the dead have no knowledge or wisdom--Ecclesiastes 9:10
It teaches that when you die, your thoughts perish-- Psalm 146:4
God is just and merciful and tortures no one.

Hell is not a physical place. I think is a spiritual place and I think is a place 2 pay for the bad things that people made in their lives. I think God makes heaven and hell, like white and black. Good and bad. Night and Day. Is part of the equilibrium (Balance)of the life.
I understand your question, why God allow that! But I think He made it horrible, because He want we will choose the Heaven... we can do it. When I was a small girl, mom always says me that some places are "horrible and there were monsters" because she wanted that I did not was there (were not a good places). And I believe in her, for me was suffering places. Now I understand she made it because she loves me, she wanted to take care of me, trying that I choose the best place. I dont know if I can explain to me (my english is... mmm bad) Maybe with hell is the same. Bible says is the worst because He loves us and He wants to have to us in Heaven.
God is not a bad God, He is a loves God; but He has rules and we choice what we want. And we will pay for our actions, -good or bad- We must to be responsible of our acts. Saludos!

First off, there is no blood in Hell. The Bible tells us that blood is life and there is no life in Hell just like there is no water. If you turn to God and ask Jesus to come into your life then you will not have to worry about how bad Hell is. OH, you will have to times the million years by a hundred billion trillion million times because Heven and Hell is for ever and ever.
