My mom was a good cop. I have many stories of all the good she did, funny things she came across and the many times families would thank her for what she did. I also have sad stories from children that were killed by parents, her attempting to resuscitate a woman after her husband had shot her, arriving at "shots fired" call to find all 8 family members dead. And the saddest of all a traffic stop that took her life. She wasn't crooked, she wasn't incompetent or a bully she was my mom and I AM very proud of her. She worked as a deputy sheriff and as a police officer for as far back as I can remember. And I miss her dearly.
Here is my story: A few years back (10 to be exact after major murkoff was elected}there was a debate going on about what ambulance service a certain little township would use. Either our city service or another cities. This debate had been going on for awhile. It was soon deemed they would not and could not use our ambulances {i dont know why I think it had something to do with contracts}. Anyhow a call came in while my mother was in the dispatch office turning in some paperwork the mother on the other end was screaming that her son had fallen into the pool and wasnt breathing. At this time the debate was still going on. Our city ambulance would NOT take the call nor would Wood County. My mom said all she could remember was the dispatcher telling her she was sorry that our city services could not accept the call due to her location. The dispatcher then told the mother she'd contact wood county, and my mom was out the door. She left city limits and even crossed county line to help this lady. She got there and continued CPR on the child until Wood county got to the house. The boy survived with profound brain injury. My mom went to see him in the hospital and the family called her a hero she told them she was no hero she was just doing her job. Soon after that the family sued both wood county and our county over this {which I dont blame them}. The little boys name is Ricky, he died last yr from pnemonia he was 12 at the time of the accident he was 2

The police chief in Cave City, Arkansas is constently arresting someone for meth. At least once a week, you'll read a story about him getting someone on drug charges. Seeing the stories kind of gets old. It's the same news different offender basically. Some people in the community complain about the chief, but I think he's great. He doesn't care what poeple think, he just does his job. If there were more like him around here, meth wouldn't be a problem. People would be too scared.

I may be biased here, since my hubby is a police officer. He is a wonderful person on and off duty. He is fair, firm and has wonderful character.
We were driving home (in his cruiser off duty) and we were just about to exit the interstate when we noticed a small RV with an elderly man trying to change the tire. My husband put on his lights and stopped to help. It seems that the back tire shredded and somehow got the fender tore up and the old tire couldn't be taken off and the new on put on. We were there with him for about more than an hour helping him and seeing them on their way.
On Christmas day last year, we were by ourselves and having dinner at a Chinese restaurant. A car pulled up with fire coming out of the back rear tire area, we ran out the exit door (where they were parked next to) and I helped the woman take out her 4 yr old girl and their infant boy. While my husband call 911 and get a fire extinguisher. The family was on their way to another city about an hour away. After the fire was put out, we took them to our town home and spent our Christmas Day with strangers who needed a place to stay. They stayed with us for several hours until the one of their parents came to get them.
I am the luckiest woman in the world to have a husband like I do and I will never, ever let him or myself forget just how blessed I am.

When my daughter was only a few months old, we lived in Kansas City, Mo and the weather there is cold and snowy in the winter. I had locked my keys in the car with my daughter still in there. I ran down the street and called 911 and they responded and unlocked my car without any problem. And the policeman told me, it is nice to do something for someone who appreciates it. And I am forever grateful. But, I do have stories that aren't very nice, but that is for another question. Thanks for asking.
