Learned behavior....we as humans cannot love fully on our own or we wouldn't need a partner...no, we have to learn it and it takes someone to help us learn it....
The thing is...it is a life long learning process...we have to learn what the Greeks determined as the 3 types of love...
Agape - unconditional love...normally learned in childhood, but is life long learning process...
Philia - the base word in Philadelphia - the Brotherly love or friendship love...
Eros - The Erotic love that most people confuse to be the true love...it is the emotional and physical love between two lovers and does not translate into the other two...
That is why I like the Greek language, it differentiates the concept of love to fully explain the meaning....
And all of this is a life long learning process...it is not intinctual...it is all learned...some of us just learn it better than others and some of us slept in class!

I think love can be taught by example. I show my son, through my actions, how you treat someone that you love and I know he is learning it because he will act in the same manner at times. I have always huged him or I said I love you out of the blue for no particular reason. He does the same thing now.

Gr8 question
I have to say that it can be learned. Consider an abused animal in an unfit home that is beaten on a daily basis and finally is taken away or runs away and is given to a loving family. Now it can be argued that the loving family taught it to finally love but I will say that it learned it from its surroundings.

We spend our entire lives learning how to be loved and how to give love. The fondation is in childhood. Love is patient. Love is Kind. Love is not jelous. Love is not puffed up. Love does not rejoice in evil. Love rejoices in the truth. Love bears all things, believes allthings, hopes in all things. Love never fails. People do then we learn another lesson about love. It takes a lifetime to learn all of these things. i think that is our purpose on earth to learn to love. However, that is probably a discussion for Philosophy.

The love you receive is equal to the love you give. you cant teach some one to love and someone cant teach you to love. Its what you feel and what they feel, and how its shared. some things you learn on your own but your not "taught".

love must be only feel and their are no school or a way to learn how to love, to love means to love and to trust all the feeling that accompanied it like hapiness, sadness, anger, jealousy, passion all this feeling enter a fusion to form love you must live with that and know that love consist of hapiness but there will be time when there will be sadness too!!!

I believe that it is learned, if you have never expeirence it for yourself espicially as a child you will never have empathy for anyone. Never to have experienced love will leave a hollow feeling in your soul.

being loved is taught thru the nuturement of our parents and hopefully all those we come into contact with growing up,and thru that we are suppose to instinctly know how to love. They say if we are abused growing up,we will in turn become the abuser.

Oh, it can be learned all the time.... but the foundation is laid when they are young. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't hug my children and tell them I love them.....and there's nothing better than having them wrap their arms around you and tell you that they love you......it's priceless!

No. I believe how you express your love and emotions is due to how you were raised and how you have perceived love from your loved ones.
