With my 3 older children they were all around 2 to 3. The one thing I did differently with the 3rd son was that instead I put him right into a twin bed. Also instead of getting a bed bumper thing. I got an extra twin sized mattress, and put it under his bedframe. At night, I would pull it out from under the bed (sorta like a trundle bed idea here) so if he fell out of bed he landed on a mattress. It taught him how to stay in his bed, and not get injured. I now as a mom of 4 children think going from a crib to a twin bed is alot easier. And when my 9 month old daughter is ready, I will do the same as with the now 4 1/2 year old. (Besides, I still have that twin mattress... lol)
Have fun, and good luck!

My little one was almost two before we switched and she's 3 1/2 now and she sleeps in a twin bed and she does fine in it.
I really think it depends on the child, some children are ready for a toddler bed earlier than others.
I wouldn't worry about it if the child is not crawling out of the crib.

A toddler bed is a waste of money. Once the child starts to climb over the crib its time for a regular bed (twin) and just get gaurd rails. Or put a lot of pillow around if your child is a bad sleeper.

I never used Toddler beds. Both kids went from crib to regular twin bed with a safety rail.

Most people think about three to four your old. But you have to know that your child isn't going to fall out of the bed. Some toddler beds have a railing and some don't. So if your child doesn't fall out of the bed and he is about three(or almost) then you should try putting them on the couch for his/her naps. If he/she doesn't roll or fall off, then you know that he/she is ready.

When he started climbing out at about 2 & 1/2. Took the railing off the one side and made it a day bed.
Or when he's potty trained so that he can get up in the night and go if he needs to.

With our first daughter, she was 2. Worst mistake we ever made. Constant getting out of bed, she started to have horrible sleeping habits because she could get out of bed and come see us. However, with my second, we waited until she was three. Never gets out of bed in the middle of the night, says goodnight and she's down for the count. It's great! Wait as long as possible.
