On December 21, 2012 the Earth will be perfectly alligned with the plane of our galaxy, something that happens every 26'000 years; and a giant object is predicted to be heading our way and will be upon us on that day, with possible catastrophic results. The Bible does not mention that the Earth will be destroyed, but that the system of things will, the Earth will last to time indefitnite and the righteous will posses it for ever. How do you see this matter?

The Bible plainly states that no man can know the day nor the hour! Matthew 24:44 says it best. "Be ye therefore also ready for in such an hour as YE THINK NOT, the Son of man cometh."

The first part of your statement is correct - there will be a stellar alignment, which only occurs every 26000 years. This is not, however, the end of the world. Just the end of an era, and the beginning of a new one.

As for the Bible not mentioning the earth's destruction, it obviously doesnt take into account that when the sun goes supernova, it will swallow the earth.....

I doubt that some massive object will hit us on that day and if it does, it is just coincidence that it happened then.

There have been innumerable predictions about The End in the Christian religion ever since the 1st Century. I remember the Jehovah's Witnesses predicting that it would occur in 1975. There numbers grew until after that year. In 1976, they recorded a drop in their membership that I can only ascribe to the disappointment in their failed prophecy.

When will people learn.......

The earth, unless destroyed by man or a VERY large object, will eventually be consumed by the sun's death throes. Humanity and most if not all of the flora and fauna maybe destroyed before then by a meteor impact or man's stupidity.

If a large object coincides with the planetary alignment in 2012, it would be a major coincidence. This date, I believe comes from the Mayan calander stopping then- why, we don't know so we can't eveluate any speculation about it.

That date is the end of the current Mayan calender and has nothing to do with the end of the world. If the Mayan civilization had survived, their astronomers s would be compiling their subsequent calender.
