Why do you think it wouldn't work between you? Were you hoping she would say she thought it would? What choice did she have but to say that? She might like you or not, but she couldn't say the way you put it. If you would like it to work, ask her out on a date and ask her if she thinks it could work out. If you don't think it would work because of something on your part, then there was little point in saying it in the first place, was there, unless she was chasing you and you needed to cool her down.

Why did you bother to tell her you liked her if you knew there was no chance of anything sparking between you. I think that was pretty hurtful which is now why she is awkward. She is wondering how to handle you
