Many mothers are saying that the government are not doing enough to help kids that are overweight.
I have views about Tony blairs policy but how ridiculous.
I say don't give the kids any help.Again I say no funding at all.
The help they need is from the mother, how an earth can mothers claim they need help,The mothers are the ones feeding them with cr@p.
The child becomes bullied BECAUSE of the parents Feeding them the foods.
If my child becomes overweight then its down to me,sure he goes to MacDonald's and eats crisp chips etc,but still eats a staple diet of fruit and vegetables.
Then mothers are claiming I cant get him/her to eat fruit or vegetables,so what happened since I was a kid.
give the child a good healthy meal,if he or she don't eat it then they cant be hungry,if they do eat it reward them with a treat.
I'm absolutely bewildered to what is happening to this country.

EXACTLY!! When i was a kid, i wasnt aloud to leave the table until i had eaten all of my (proper) cooked meals!! then if i did i got a treat.. i wasnt aloud to munch on crisps all day... and i actuallly went OUTSIDE to play - running around etc... now give em a gameboy and they sit there all day and not move... and we wonder why we got fatter kids with more problems than you can throw a stick at!!
Less crap food (microwave) , more active play!

I totally agree with you, but what children also need is exercise and so many parents now days use the PlayStation or television as a child minder when the children should be outside enjoying exercise and fresh air. I am amazed that parents are trying to blame the government for common sense, if you feed your child junk food and no exercise they are going to get fat, there are enough parks and green belt areas in this country that no parents can honestly say that there is nowhere for there children to play in the fresh air.
Fruit vegetables, water instead of fizzy drinks and twenty minutes running around will keep them fit!
Does anybody else think that there should be an IQ test before you can have children because when you can not give a child a healthy upbringing with out government help surely you are a unfit parent.

Actually it is the parents who need to teach their kids to eat healthy. Too many people don't take the responsibility to instruct their kids or set an example of a good diet.
If a child at home is fed fast foods or junk foods, it isn't the government's fault - it is the person who buys the food. It is actually cheaper to buy whole foods from the market and prepare them than buying pre-made stuff.
The government of course doesn't help with changing nutritional guidelines every so many years. For awhile it was about complex carbs and low protein and now that has changed.
The best scenario is for parents to feed their kids a little from each food group at each meal and to regulate the portions.
If a child is fat, encourage them to be more active - play outside instead of watching TV. There is no excuse for fat kids...

I have 2 boys, one of whom eats anything put in front of him, the other is eactly the opposite. I have raised them both exactly the same, and I go through the rigmarole of putting vegetables on his plate even though he doesn't eat them, and will continue to do so. there's not much else i can do. That boy is as skinny as a rake, by the way, and eats mainly chocolate and sausages. He's also pretty intelligent. I also like the way you keep mentioning mothers, as though they are single-handedly responsible for the obesity epidemic. Kids who spend a lot of time with their mums are less likely to be fat, as it tends to be well-meaning grandparents who feed them rubbish, or stuff straight from a deep-fat fryer. Mums are more likely to insist on proper meals, and mine certainly aren't allowed sweets unless they have access to a toothbrush. You can only do what you can, and don't think too much about the state of the country-that will only make you feel worse. I worry more about children who are neglected or abused, and have probably never had sweets, but that's another story.

Good for you. Finally, it's confirmed that there are still people with common sense.
Once while I was picking my son up from school, I over heard a parent encouraging her already over weight child to eat cheese sticks instead of a salad. Seriously, the child told her mom she wanted to try a salad the next day at lunch and the mom freaked and said, but you love cheese sticks, why not just eat that?
AHHH!

2 of my children eat a very varied diet one of which is quite overweight but i also have one child who wont try anything new, asks for chips and sausage all the time and MC Donald's, so i can see why parents do allow their kids to eat a certain amount of junk. I'm forever trying to get mine to try new healthier variety's of food.
tonight my overweight son had jacket potato with spaghetti inside and salad.
we all have to take some responsability for over kids being overweight and i firmly believe education from parents and school is the key. we all should work hand in hand to find a solution.

totally in agreement with you, no-one but the parents can be held responsible for it. isn't it a lovely sight to see a mother stuffing a kids face with a sausage roll from greggs while it's sitting in it's pram, which displays laziness and a lack of interest that they can't be bothered to cook the child a healthy meal. a bit of time from the parents could change a lifestyle. all in favour of treats if the majority of the diet is healthy. the parents should, if their child is bullied be locked up for cruelty and mental torture, much the same as they would be for mistreating a dog.

I agree. While I think the rise in childhood obesity is PARTIALLY a result of no more gym class in schools/no outdoor recess, which a lot of schools are turning towards, but ultimately it's the parents' responsibility to feed their children healthy and get them away from teh TV and out to play. It irritates me when parents shift all responsibility to the govt or McDonald's!

hey hey back up a little buddy whilst i agree partly that mothers are to blame for the junk that their kids eat i find it hard to believe they are at MC Donald's or kfc every single night of the week .what about greedy supermarkets that hyp the price of fresh food up what about all those poor mother who hold down a full time job and don't have time unfortunately to prepare a home cooked meal for their family ...and what about dad where is he in the equation why can't our children play in the streets safely anymore could that be down to poor policing and over crowded prisons ? i think we need to look at the broader picture
