He only does this when he is in a twilight sleep and plays hard with other dogs. He is extremely wonderful otherwise. I have watched the dog whisperer, tried every technique, no luck. I WILL NOT hit him. Nothing seems to work. Ouch!!! Will he outgrow this?

Good for you to stand your ground, it's completely unfair to hit a dog for what might be a neurological problem. Here's a link for stopping biting:

- I do agree with the other poster, though - don't approach your dog when you think he might bite you again. You are aware of the times/places/conditions uner which he's bitten before, so don't make him bite you again. Dogs who are allowed to continue aggressive behavior will continue to do so - they won't get better. Please seek the help of a behaviorist.

No need to hit him! Most people laugh off bites when it is a small breed like a chi, personally, i don't think biting should be tolerated from any dog no matter what the size! if you have tried everything, and he is exercised and socialized, it might be time to consult a behaviorist. little dog or not there is nothing cute about being bitten, and you don't want to take the chance that the little guy will bite someone else!

Of course your dog will outgrow the bitting spree. He is just chewing. Remember when you were a little baby needing to gnaw on your toys to break your teeth in well that is the same thing his is doing. When he starts to bite to hard pull your finger or hand away from him.

You are Alpha! So what you need to do Alpha is reinforce your hierarchy. Keep up the training. LOTS of training.

You should be able to do flips with your dog without so much a peep! Set up rules and regulation for everything. Going outside - only when YOU say so. Put him in sit, have him wait then give him a command to go out. When you put his food down - have him sit, have him wait then give him a command to eat. Getting on the bed or furniture - Not till you say so When you walk- he should be walking next to or behind you. Alpha walks in front!

Discipline then Training then TLC.

You need to reinforce your boundaries and rules. When that happens the snapping will stop!

Good Luck

Why do you go by the dog when it is in twilight sleep knowing that it will bite you? All you are doing is reinforcing the behavior.

He is not going to outgrow this behavior.
It is a bad behavior and you are allowing it to continue.
Unless you are willing to work with the dog and a traineryou are going to have the typicall nasty tempered snotty snappy Chi.
Most are spoiled rotten and fine as long as they have their way but if you want them to do something they do not want to do out comes the moster.
Disipline will help fix the problem but you need to work with a trainer to figure out what type you need to use. Chis are tiny and hitting them is not going to work well as you can injure them. How ever there are ways to displine them with out hitting andyou need to learn how and learn to use it.
Good luck.

I think most Chihuahaus are like that, I would set him down when he starts and ignor him until he calms down, if you keep doing that he might pick up on the fact that you aren't going to pay attention to him if he is agressive. Good luck.

My mom has a chihuahua he is about 4 years old he is really sweet but if you mess with him he bites and it is pretty hard. I think that it is just part of some chihuahuas behavior and personality.

I used to have a pitbull before I moved and he wanted to be the boss. He tried to bite me when he was a pup. I bit his ear back and he never did it again. Gross but it works.
