No. There are better methods of disciplining your kids than hitting them.

I think it is on the right track, but should be rethought. I think it is designed so that is easier and quicker for a person that uses spanking in the extreme to be reported and stopped.

I spent many years working with child services in Arkansas. In order to report abuse, you had to call the state hot line. Then it had to be investigated by the state police. If they thought it was warranted, they then dispatched child services. If they thought the situation was severe enough the child was removed immediately. If not, a case worker was then assigned to visit the family.

Now, I said of all of that to say this. Under this law, if you were in a public place, or living next door, and a child was being brutally spanked, you could call the local police and they would be dispatch immediately. I am sure there is room for abuse of this law. If you choose to slap a child's hand, or slap him lightly on his bottom, that should be your choice, (although I think there are better solutions) . But if some people are are reported wrongly, and that is what it takes to save the children who really need our protection, than so be it. When law enforcement is dispatched, I am sure they will be able to determine the difference. And, just think how much time will be saved in getting the children the help they not only need but deserve.

So, this may not be the solution, but I feel that it is on the right track.

I don't like to spank my child BUT sometimes it just has to be done. when i was younger if i did something wrong i would get spanked. ( with a branch of a tree) let me tell you once that happens your kids will think twice about disobeying!! i truly think that parents are not strict enough on there kids a parent should be a parent and not a friend! ( i try and use Spanking as a last resort) the Government need to bud out! ***but if parents put bruises scratches on a child that is different!

Yes, after studying a method called "Love and Logic" by Jim Faye. I learned that kids learn best when they are taught to understand the possible natural consequences of their actions. Punishments (spanking) is an illogical consequence and only teaches the child to avoid punishment rather than making better choices. Furthermore, the child did not resolve their issue or is forced to do so through the threat of physical violence. Punishments are reactive; kids need to be preactive by thinking before acting.

what law? There is a law about spanking? I have two kids and I rarely spank them because I believe in logical consequences. I am very strict with my kids but I found logical consequences to work much more effectively then spanking.

Yup. I think that they are your kids and how you want to discipline them is your decision. However, I think there is a fine line between spanking and child abuse so parents need to becareful and not take it too far! Why though are we making laws for parents?? If thats the case then we should be making laws as to who can have kids!

Why is spanking needed?????? Tone of voice and actions that follow are more productive then physical spanking. Parental training is what is needed here. Stop the spanking!!!!!

that bill is completely unrealistic. it's not possible for all children to be successfully diciplined with the same method, it just doesn't work that way. true, there are many children for whom the time out method is very effective, but that's not the case for all children of all ages. i do spank my kids from time to time, but only when several verbal corrections do not work, and it's never hard enough to actually cause pain, it's just enough to get their attention. and because of this, my 2 year olds are much better behaved that my 4 year old neice, who's mother does not use anything but verbal dicipline for her.

There's a law against spanking your children?

Ha.

Yeah, and never tell them they're wrong, or that they can't have something.

Yes. Children need to be corrected, in the right manner, of course.
There is a right and a wrong way to correct a child. If a person leaves cuts, bruises, etc. on a child, then that person should go to jail.

There is an actual law? Children need discipline and correction but not slapping and hitting out of anger. If you're angry then you are not teaching anything except anger. Children need to learn, they need to be protected and government needs to stay out of people's lives except in obvious extreme cases.
