Try putting the litterbox "back" where it used to be. I learned quickly that my Stimpy is picky about "where" she goes. Hope this helps...

As others have reported, there could be a scientific reason at the back of this. If its behavioural, some cats are choosy approximately entering into a litterbox that yet another cat makes use of. possibly attempt a pair of spares tucked away around the homestead. It additionally ought to help to maintain a watch on him once you placed the spares down with sparkling muddle, as though he's fantastic with entering into them it must be the previous reason or it must be that he's fussy approximately how sparkling his litterbox is. think of to your self whether something has replaced while the difficulty began, a sparkling cat, a metamorphosis in eating regimen? Has he been eating fantastic? additionally, while he has an acciendent what are you utilising to bathe it up with? Cats will bypass the place they are in a position to smell their previous 'leavings' and that they have got a stable experience of smell. Vinegar is stable for detering him from pooping the place you do no longer want him to. the only different reason i will think of of on the 2d is whether or no longer muddle has been unfold around the floor by skill of yet another cat, that would confuse them the place to bypass. One final be conscious - if his poops look too runny or too complicated then its the two a eating regimen subject or a scientific one.

Since this is a new behavior a trip to the Vet is in order.
Cats will hide illnesses from us, it's part of their nature...they have to do it in the wild because if they show any sign of weakness they become the prey instead of the preditor.
He may be showing you that he's ill by not using the box.
With all that said, it's also possible that if you have moved the litter box, bought a new box or new litter that he's just displeased with that.
But, to be on the safe side I would take him to the Vet...better safe than sorry.
Good luck, I hope you get the problem taken care of .

Have you changed anything? The brand of litter, placement of litter box, added a liner, etc?? (if you have, unchange it) If you have a plastic litter box that you have had for a while, you may need to get another one. They absorb odor over time and maybe your kitty doesn't like the smell. Also, is the litter box in a dark room? While it is true cats can see much better than us in the dark, they cannot see in absolute darkness. If it only happens at night, that could be the problem. Good luck!

There's lots of reasons why cats do this. One is that they don't like the location of the litterbox. If it's close to something that makes alot of noise, say like a washing machine, the noise scares them and then they don't want to go in the box. Another reason is if you change brands of litter. They may not like the scent of it. And another reason yet could be that he's sick. Maybe you should take him for a check up? Just to rule out any sickness. And I have to say kudos to you for keeping your kitty indoors! So many people are irresponsible and let them roam free. I'm glad to hear you're not one of them!

I had a cat one time that peed everywhere b/c she didn't like the type of litter that was in her box. Have you recently changed the brand of litter you were using? If not, try a different brand. He might not like something about the brand you are using. Also, my cat would do things out of jealousy. For example, when she was left too long, or I didn't give her enough attention, she would tear something up or either pee on something of mine.

One of my cats does this when something's bothering him. The solution is to put him in his cage at night...with food, water and a pan of litter...and not let him roam alone at night. It usually takes a week or two of that before he breaks out of it. BTW, giving a little fresh catnip a few times a day also helps them relax and get back into good habits.

Yes, he is trying to tell you something. They are usually "rebelling" against something, but sudden litter box accidents are usually a sign of an illnes. You should have your cat checked by a vet and it may be as simple as a UTI. Few days of meds and good as new.

You may want to take him to the vet. Cat's are creatures of habit. If their bathroom habits change it could mean that there is something bigger wrong.

There may be something that is bothering him that he is trying to communicate to you. Probably that he is not feeling well. I would take him to the vet and have the vet give him a thorough exam.
