When you are married and file separately you honestly get screwed. You definitely want to file together. When I was going through a divorce I had to do that, and I only got back half of what I would have gotten if we filed together.

File married filing joint, but him as the primary (which doesn't matter) Then claim all the kids. No bigge. If you don't itemize you get a higher standard deduction, which went up this year. Your standard deduction would be 26,800 all together... which would leave about 2,200... in which you have to pay taxes on. So you would get whatever extra you payed in plus, you could file for Child tax credit on each child. The best way to find out is fill out a 1040A each way and see what come back with more money.

No. It actually turns out to be a real pain to file separately - more forms and stuff. You would have submit copies of his 1040 along with yours. It really doesn't work out in your favor.

You'd get more filing together. But - try doing it yourself both ways and see what happens. I've done this before and it always works out you get more when you file together.

File together and claim all kids..It does not matter if he isn't the father if they lived with him for 6 months then he can claim them.

hard to tell

most tax places and tax software will let you run the numbers both ways, and do whichever is better for you.
