Aw C'mon St Lady! SURELY I am not part of the ML???
You will just have to stick around and see for yourself, many of the clueless think they ARE dog people, after all, they HAVE a DOG!
I haven't turned down any offer, I asked twice about the group and hadn't heard anything back. I can't join if I don't know where it is.
I see Rodeo has included me, and Pink as well. NOW I feel better! LOL!
"So as I am sitting here in the Caribbean playing all day .... and only 24 yrs old."
LOL! Ya SINGLE???

It probably won't be too hard to figure out who is actually giving you helpful advice and who isn't. There are some very knowledgable and helpful people here on YA and I'm sure you'll figure out who these people are fairly fast.
I think the best thing to do here on YA is to take the answers you get and then do follow up research on what people have told suggested. There's lots of helpful people with good advice here, but not everything suggested will always work for your specific situation (i.e. a method of training that works well for one person's dog, may not be the best suited for someone else's dog.. but it's still good to have the ideas out there to research).

They are the RESPONSIBLE breeders, the dog trainers, vets and vet techs, kennel workers, Shelter workers. Basically people who "know" dogs and have done the research as well as having first hand experience. You will be able to tell by their answers if you stay on here for long. You will come to recognize some of the names. I agree with st.lady (She is pretty good herself!). GetEmGang was removed but is back as "Tyke". Chetco is GREAT. lovemylab, Whipptwmn, Torbaynewfs, pinkdenial, tlctree,JR, greekman, Chihuahua lady, happy2luv, miriam, and many others are names you can usually trust

There are a lot of people here who claim to be experts that I would not trust with a pet rock. Some claim to be vets, but there is no way to check it out. Rely on your gut instinct and always check with your vet about any medical problems with your dog. The ones that act like they know it all are the last ones I would rely on.

Do you mean name names? OK I'll play. Torbay, Greekman, Miriam, KJ, Woooh, Loki, Shepherd girl and Tyke aka...GitemGang, huntingdawgs and who knows what else this week. It's ashame the ML has to keep removing Tyke, probably the most entertainment this site has to offer. They all seem to have a good grasp of what a dog really is. Better than me. I guess the answers aren't sugar coated but, honest. Just think how boring this site would be if everyone agreed all the time. They would just keep spreading the same Junk back and forth to each other. There are a few more that know their stuff but, names elude me at the moment. Sorry!!!!
I said some names eluded me whpptwmmn you ARE a great "Real Dog" person. you just slipped my mind......Ya, know I love your answers and witt !!!!!!!!!!!! Why have you turned down our offer???? Now I'm getting in trouble. To those I have forgotten,,,,,,,,,,You know who you are!!!!
Oh, just get over yourself and answer the email I sent you.....Ha Ha.

IME you'd get a ton of mixed answers on here as it's not moderated. There are dog training discussion groups on Yahoo - and they're moderated, with many great trainers contributing to them. Some of these are:
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/ClickerSolutions/
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/K9Nutrition/
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/spt/?yguid=117220993
Just to name a few. You can do a search for other specific areas of interest - Schutzhund, tracking, flyball, obedience, etc. HTH.

I won't tell you who "real dog people" are and who aren't, because honestly that's relatively subjective.
But whose answers do I read more thoroughly than others? Let's see...Miriam, Loki_Wolfchild, Torbaynewfs, Greekman, Shadow Melon, whpptwmn, Chetco, and St. Lady.
There are few others who are knowledgable but answer with too much attitude...its hard to take them seriously as being educated and knowledgable when they don't come across as either.

you can trust yourself. but look around and get advice from a number of people and/or breeders, if more are saying one thing then it is most likely they are the dog people and the ones to trust.
