Please explain me the reason why an atom was chosen as the symbol of atheism

More properly, this is the symbol chosen by the American Atheist Association. It's an organization to which I have no real interest in being involved, despite being an atheist myself.

Unlike the cross, which is a universal symbol in one form or another for all Christians, this atom icon is not the universal symbol for atheists, just one group of atheists.

There's a symbol for atheism? That's news to me. Anyway I'm a Taoist. That's the yin-yang symbol.

i didnt know atheism had a symbol
though if this were true, i guess it can symbolize science for their position of using scientifcal explanations and reasons to refute God

it is a symbol for how we understand nature and how it works...scientifically...factually. The fact is that no supernatural explanation is nedded for the natural world.
