Hey digilook,

I think when people say that they are thinking in terms of self-perception and self-knowledge. If you go around thinking to yourself or telling others that you are humble, then you are not.
I imagine being humble involves such a modesty in spirit that the very act of thinking (or saying) that one is humble is enough to prove how far one is from that state of mind.

No. Humble means teachable.

It doesn't mean having no self esteem. It doesn't mean thinking you're worse than everyone else.

If you believe that God created you, and you are thankful, you have self esteem and you can think good things about yourself.

Pride in country and children is no different than Pride in self. And pride is not the opposite of humility.

There are two meanings of pride, just as two of humility.

Biblical humility is not humiliation, it is a willingness to learn, to admit that one's teacher, one's parents, and even one's church may be wrong.

Biblical Pride is thinking that one's own country, wealth, family or even church is more important than God.

Humility is the virtue which acknowledges that all we have and all we accomplish is God's work not ours.

The opposite of humility is the sin of pride. Pride in yourself is undue self-esteem or self-love, which seeks attention and honor and sets oneself in competition with God.

Pride in things like your heritage, your nation, and your children are just being thankful for gifts from God. These are not the sin of pride.

With love in Christ.
