stop eating junk food!! i know that's hard but you're not in your 20s anymore and your metabolism isn't NEARLY as good as it used to be. try that atkins diet. my mom is 50 and is very overweight and it's working wonders for her. but she combines the diet with daily exercise as well. talk with your doctor and see if he/she can help you find the right diet that will work for you. good luck!!

Hey I am 5'2 as well being short sucks because any wieght you put on is so magnified. Anyways at my heaviest I was 187 so I know what that is like. If I could give you any eating advice it would be portion control. I am not a diet type person but I do have a great knowledge on what is good for me so I try to stay with in those lines and watch how much I eat. I am currently 118 !!!! that took a year but I am darn proud and I feel 10000000 % better. If you only knew how great you would feel even after losing 10 you would not think twice about the sacrafice. But in all honesty excersice is so key!! get an i pod load up your fav music and get walking!! hope this helps it worked for me . Be patient and be kind to your body . If you have anymore quest e mail me i would love to share all the info I have. I am a trainer and nutritionist.

You need to make a lifestyle change. Don't look for a diet plan that you can follow for a period of time to lose weight. Instead, change the way you eat every day.

Switch from refined grains to whole grains. Reduce fats and sugars. Cut down your portion sizes. There are a number of things you can do to accomplish this, and stick with it.

The first thing to remember is that you don't want to change everything overnight. Gradually introduce healthy eating habits and you'll keep them. Make a complete 180 degree change and you'll likely find yourself unsatisfied and won't stick with it.

So maybe the first thing you do is switch from white bread to wheat bread, or white rice to brown rice. Stop putting butter on bread. Switch from whole milk down to 2%, then 1%, then skim. Reduce the amount of oil you use in your cooking. Make these changes gradually (say introduce another one every two weeks or so) and you won't notice the shock so much. Keep replacing things you like to eat with healthy alternatives, and watch the pounds drop.

Don't give up on yourself! This is important, because whenever you eat junk food, you are giving up on yourself. The next time you reach for that snack, tell yourself: "I REFUSE to give up on myself." Then, go find an apple or orange, or other piece of fruit. If there aren't any in the house, take a break (because you REFUSE to give up on yourself) and go buy some. Each time you think of junk food, keep telling yourself that. This will act as a sort of brainwashing in which you are putting your subconscious on notice that you are serious about losing weight.

Keep different kinds of fruit in the refridgerator all the time. If you live with other people, tell them that you are saving that fruit for yourself. This is part of your committment to YOURSELF. This is very hard for women to learn, but in order to lose weight, you have to put yourself first. Don't take it personal, its just a fact of life that we all have to recognize.

Eating fruit when you snack builds up your immune system which will help you lose weight.

Also, when you get a craving for something, all you need to do is have 3 bites or mouthfulls to satisfy it. Anything after that is just to fill some other kind of void, like loneliness or self-hatred.

Drink a lot of liquids every day, because this will increase the number of bowel movements you have. If, like a lot of women, you don't have a tendency to have a b.m. every day, take fiber. I use ground golden flax seed and put it in my yogurt or oatmeal. This gives me omega-3s, just like fish oil does. What this does is clean your digestive system and colon and will give you an added spark that you are on the right track. Just think of it as getting rid of the weight that you don't want. So, make sure you do that everyday, everyday, everyday.

I use the paper plate diet. It's all about portion control. Go to Wal-Mart and get those paper plates with the 3 section dividers. You can put your main item in one section, some fruit or veggies in another section, then your chips or whatever in the other section. Top that off with some diet coke or water and you'll be fine. It's about portion control though, if you only eat the amount of chips in that section you will lose weight and stuff eat the good stuff.
