I've been thinking about trying Proactive for a while, and now you can get it for only $19.99 or something but I don't know anyone who has tried it. I breakout quite offten and I've tried EVERYTHING and EVERYTHING dries my face soooo bad that it looks like the Sahara desert! I was just wondering if it drying to your face? And if it really does work. Thanks.

It doesn't work for cystic acne although I've used it for years it has been better than most others I've tried. I've just started using MAC green gel cleanser & am liking it alot. If you were full-on makeup, proactiv cleanser doesn't remove makeup well. Even a Proactiv rep told me I'd need to buy additional make up remover because the cleanser was designed to wash the face not remove makeup.

I tried Proactive many years ago. Like you, I have tried everything. It didn't work too well for me and it got too expensive for me to keep ordering refills and hope that one day it would finally work. I still have acne today, but its not as bad because I was put on Accutane about 6 years ago. That will probably be the last resort because of all the possible side effects that come with the drug. My derm currently has me using Differin cream once a day and walmart brand Equate lotion for my face (its cheaper then others but still works just as great). So far, its working pretty well. I still get break outs though but no where near as bad. I'm sure Proactive might dry out your face but I think there is a lotion that comes with it. Most medicines will dry out your face. As far as other over-the counter meds, I recently tried Clean & Clear Persa-Gel 10 with benzoyl peroxide. It did clear my acne, however, it tried my face out A LOT!! Definitely use a face lotion if you try that.

As far as using Proactive, I say if you want to give it a try, go ahead. It may work for you. Hope I helped!

Good luck!
