how do I tell my boyfriend thai I do want to and will marry him but not yet and I dont know when-w/o hurting his feelings? I just came out of a very bad and abusive relationship of 3 years and am just getting back on my feet with a good job,my own place etc.and even tho I love him very much I want to have the opportunity to enjoy what I have accomplished for myself in rebuilding my independence and self esteem.He doesn't seem to understand this so pls give me advice if you can...t/y

If he loves you, he'll wait. Now, if you're making him wait for too long, then I say you'll end up losing him to someone else. I know is hard to trust when you have been on a bad relationship. We tend to get biased. But if he's as good as you tell us he is, then you shouldn't make him pay the mistakes of the former one. He needs to learn some patience, and you need to heal a little faster.

You need to sit down with him and tell him exactly what you said here in your question. Be open and honest and if he truly loves you he will understand and embrace the chance to make his woman a stronger and more confident woman.

He should understand and respect your desicion to wait. That might be a red flag if he gets angry. Tell him that you love him but you need to love yourself first before you can love anyone else. That to give you time and eventually you will be ready. Don't rush and you should not feel guilty.

Print out what you've posted here and give it to him. He can read it and see that you really do love him and the rest shouldn't be bad at all cause you are really answering him with a yes but with provisions.
