Why do people keep saying this? Anyone else think this is annoying? I've never heard of anyone falling down and becomming pregnant! If only it were that easy (haha)

I do realize that people don't actually mean "they fell down" (I'm not an idiot, just curious why people are choosing this odd phrase)

Hmmm. Never heard this phrase. I guess you can say it's from the same idea as when someone says "I fell sick" ???
There are some strange things posted here and it gets more interesting everyday. Just shows the diversity of so many people from different parts of the world getting together and sharing phrases. I'm from the south and there are some things my culture says that people from other parts of the same state or other parts of the country look at with confusion. For instance, we "save up" our groceries. Well, no one really saves them. They put them up in the pantry. Just a weird terminology that our culture has kept for many years.
I like the first post - falling on a penis - LMAO - that was a good one. Made me smile this morning :)

Yes, that is a rather odd saying...but I guess as it is a medical condition, like how some people say that they 'fell ill' or whatever the case may be. But again, it is a bit odd to say that they fell pregnant.

I don't understand the saying myself! If everytime I fell down I got pregnant, I'd be pregnant everyday. Yes I fall alot! Being pregnant is no walk in the park on my opinion, my son is my most prized, joyous, overwhelming achievement in my life but kids take time and money and alot of patients. It is annoying but alot of sayings in this day in time are annoying to me.

Thats not what it means. Instead of saying "becoming pregnant" they say falling pregnant it mean the same as being or becoming pregnant, I have never heard anyone say it until I got on here.

I have never heard of that phrase. It is a stupid one but the only one I have heard of is "slipping up and getting pregnant" or someone saying " I slipped up" or " I got caught"
something like that but never that phrase.

That phrase/expression irks me too - it seems grammatically incorrect. Maybe it should be on next year's "bannished words list" along with the equally irritating "we're pregnant" phrase.

LOL..I said the same thing about the title of your question before I opened it. I have no idea why people say that..they make it sound like they are in the 1800's or caught some disease.

Yes! It really bugs me! It sounds like the person had nothing to do with it. "I was just walking along, minding my own business, and I fell pregnant!"
Another thing that bothers me - "WE are pregnant." I'm sorry, but the guy is NOT pregnant, no matter how involved he is, he is not the one experiencing it!
*I* am pregnant, *I* will go through labor, and then *we* will have a baby.

I find it annoying but I guess it's just how some people talk. I don't say it and don't know anyone who does.
