I am a diploma holder and not sure to join a big company or a small one is better to kick start my career

Well it really depends on what type of engineering you are coming from. Sales engineers usually are aggressive individuals because you have to be, but usually have monetary incentives attached with it. It also depends on what you want out of your career.. Sales engineers can lead into business type of positions within a company.
The big company vs small company question is really about your character. Big companies will generally have events, programs and increased facilities for you to enjoy as an employee. The drawbacks are possibly having more than one boss and possible mass layoffs. In smaller companies, more attention is payed to the individual and project(s). However, you may be required to wear more than one hat since there might not be someone there to assist you with petty tasks.
All in all, take a step back and look at where your career is now and where you want it go in the immediate and distant futures.

I was a sales engineer. Then manager.... It is not necessary to be overly aggressive, at least not for my industry. I was mechanical engineer.
Sales engineer is good if you are a more "versatile" person than your pure engineering peers - interested in profits, marketing, etc.
Must know the products you sell - that's how we differentiate from non-technical sales. So customers trust you. Ask the pure engineers or technicians at home when I don't know the answer. The sales engineer is the intermediate between customer and production.

Look at what you want to do. Bigger companies have better projects, but you are probably a smaller part of a bigger whole. The small companies will let you see and do it all, from beginning to end.
