I'm creating a spreadsheet template that performs various calculations, but I only need input in particular cells, and the rest is calculated with various other formulas and cell references. the template i have created is used by many people, and in the intial stages, people accidently alter the conditional statments and therefor really mess up the whole sheet. I want to be able to 'lock' these particular cells with the conditional formulas and cell references, but not 'lock' the whole worksheet. any help or reference appreciated :)

select the whole range by clicking the top left corner
Under format cells protection tab, make sure it 'locked' is checked.

now select cells users are allowed to input. Use control key to select multiple cells, do the same as able, uncheck 'locked'

Under tools protection, activate locking

equipment, safe practices, unprotect sheet - yet you want to have the password for this to artwork. a cheat way is to reproduction and paste the sheets contents from one sheet to a clean e book - relying on the safe practices this would help. 0.33 way is to come across a password cracker and brute stress it.
