WE NEED TO DO THIS:
*Close the border
*Build a tall, climb-resistant fence
*Militarize the borders (north AND south)
*Have checkpoints for those with legal documents to enter
*Deport any found in the USA illegally
*Allow officials (County/City police, State Patrol, Fed. and State public assistance offices, credit reporting agencies, IRS, Banks, loan officers, anyone who takes an application, or goes into a contract with them) to report any suspicious or unusual discrepancies to ICE for investigation. Any of those who feel they need identification and proof of legality, should be free to ask without fear of repercussions. It shouldn't be against the law to ask, but it is ALREADY against the law to be unable to prove legality.
*Take away their incentives to come here or stay here
*Make it against the law to hire anyone without proof of citizenship.
*Make people aware that if they harbor, rent to, or sell a home to an illegal immigrant, they stand the possibility of a stiff fine.
*abolish the "anchor baby" misunderstanding
AND THEN:
*Reduce ALL immigration to 200,000 per year in order to get the level of our population to a controllable, sustainable number.

This is a "hot" topic. I think that one would first need to change the constitution. What we have to understand is that the United States can no longer take in anyone. We are just now starting to see the problems that can come from that policy. Next you need to stop companies from hiring people not here legally. That is a tough one to do and would take major investment on state and federal levels. And sadly immigration is really a federal problem and since big business can buy off our legislators it will not happen any time soon.
Last and toughest of all you would need to improve the life in the countries where the illegal come from. Mexico has a wealth of resources but its government seems to be so corrupt that those living in poverty have so little hope that the must flee their country to make a living. Money sent back from the US is Mexico's second largest income so its not likely the will change any time soon. Think about it if you had 100 children and could get 80 of them to live at someone else's house not provide them any food, clothing, schooling, health care, etc. but still have them send money home to you and your other 20 children would you change?
And as long as I am on the soap box, I also think that a lot of the immigration problem is that a lot of the people that are coming here now expect that we should learn their language not the other way around. I have several friends from different European countries and I hear from them all the time about how when they came here they had to learn English. If you move here for a better life you need to assimilate into this country not make us learn a new language so we can help you.

1. Protect the border without killing anyone.
2. Deport the illegal people that are "real" criminals. (Drug dealers, murderers and the like). Contrary to what everyone thinks not all illegals are bad people. Not all illegals steal identities! Not all illegals are in gangs. Not all illegals are here to steal from the system either.
3. You would have to do something about the other people that are already here that contribute to our society in a positive way, and that would be by making them legal. If they are legal it would bring them out of the shadows so they would all have the correct paperwork, and they would all pay taxes because that's what it's all about... $ If you don't think it's all about money then how come you can get a Visa by investing money?
4. I sort of agree with "mel j's" answer as well.
5. Stop the hypocrisy. EVERYONE breaks laws... EVERYONE! Do you drive and can honestly tell me you never go over the speed limit? I think not.

Enforce our laws. Fine and imprison the people who hire, and provide housing to illegals. Stop all government /tax payer support of illegals, no school, no welfare, and no health care. By doing these things the incentive to come here doesn't exist except in the case that someone is looking for work or running from their own countries law. In the case of people looking for work give them a legal and traceable way to enter. I don't see a problem with some people being allowed to work here if they are given the same wages and benefits as a citizen would get. If they are not able to undercut and drive down our wages and Americans have first chance at the jobs it can be mutually beneficial to allow temporary work visas.

Simply stop taking in immigrants. I look at the problem as this, when we were a young country we needed more people so we accepted more people, now that we have been over run with people we should simply stop accepting them.
It would not be the first time we would have done this, during world war two we stopped taking people into the country from other countries that too many people came from unless they had an immediate relative that lived here. For instance we stopped accepting people from the Ukraine, Germany, Russia and many other countries because a preset limit was reached of immigrants from those countries.
Just reenact those laws and all will be fine.

The problem is with illegal aliens not immigration as a whole.
First and foremost the borders MUST be secured, then systematic deportation of all illegal aliens.A better legal entry system and more selectivity in our policy's of who,and
how many.and from what country,
legal immigrants this nation allows to enter..
Illegal aliens are not necessarily coming here to work,33 percent of our prison population is now comprised of non-citizens. Plus, 36 to 42 percent of illegal aliens are on welfare. So, for a good proportion of these people, the American dream is crime and welfare, not coming here to work.
Illegal aliens are not doing work Americans won't do. What jobs won't Americans do? In most states, Americans still clean their own houses, do their own landscaping, clean hotel rooms, work in restaurants and fast food places, paint houses, construction work, work in meat packing plants ,slaughter houses ,work in airports, etc. - just like we have the past 200 years before "our" government allowed these people to invade our country. There are 18 million Americans who cannot find a job, so illegal aliens who are coming here to work do so at peril to American workers.
Illegal aliens absolutely do not contribute more than they cost. Certainly the millions in prison and on welfare aren't contributing a dime to our economy, and the ones who are working often are paid in cash with no deductions for taxes at all. The ones who use fraudulent social security numbers and qualify to pay taxes and social security have so many deductions for dependents that they pay little if any taxes.
The economy does not depend on illegal aliens. Sure, greedy CEOs (making $50 to $150 MILLION a year) and business owners depend on illegal aliens, but the only thing illegal aliens are contributing to is the collapse of our economy and making the rich richer.
Without illegal aliens, the price of agricultural products and other goods and services will not soar. The definitive study on this subject is the University of Iowa's "How Much Is That Tomato?" The study concludes that 'since labor is such a small component of the end-price of agricultural products (which includes price to the growers, transportation costs, processing /storage costs, grocers' profit, etc.), using minimum wage workers instead of illegal aliens would increase prices of agricultural products by approximately 3 percent in the summer and 4 percent in the winter ... hardly the making of $10 heads of lettuce, $25 hamburgers, $1,000 per night Days Inn hotel rooms like the pro-illegal alien lobby claims.
Consumers are not benefiting from lower labor costs. Again, it's CEOs and business owners who benefit from taxpayer subsidies for their illegal alien workers. The Big Three automakers say they moved so many jobs to Mexico because their labor costs are 80 percent less than in America. Anybody notice the price of new cars spiraling downward under NAFTA?
A few facts .....

I even do not recognize at this aspect. If we proceed to wrestle Congress to end the provide-a-way, we would win. yet keep in innovations the Democrats have sworn to get charges with the help of that help the unlawful extraterrestrial beings, and they have been attempting to do precisely that for a consistent era of time. between Democratic Majority chief Pelosi, and the Democratic Senate chief Reid, we've a huge difficulty with human beings in places the position they are very puzzling to administration! we want a nationwide polliniative and with that, the human beings might want to create the regulations that would want to end all of us from giving tax money and favors to human beings in a fashion that hurts the human beings.

Enforce the law. It is a silent war there is no civilian population, As there is a REAL threat war time measures should be in force, contain all that are suspicious, run the checks on ALL then deport them and their children.
Having Children for status and citizenship should not be rewarded.

Secure the border, put the visa exit tracking system in place, enforce our laws, including by outlawing sanctuary cities and enforcing against employers routinely, dismantle all of the BENEFITS as well as employment magnets, which means no education unless they pay tuition for their kids, enforce to make schools actually check, (education is the biggest reason they come and the biggest reason we have to stop them - it is ruining our schools.)

Jail employers that hire illegal alien criminals. If there is no work, the job market will dry up and they will go back to Mexico where they belong. (Yes, I am generalizing about Mexico but that's where most of CA's problem comes from.)
And build a really big wall with razor wire and electricity!
