Ha ha, great question. Some field-bred Labs take longer to settle down - they are very high-drive. Giving your pup a job to do is a great idea, there are training schools around that you can visit to try out obedience, rally, flyball, agility, etc. Labs are good at all of these things, and taking classes will provide mental stimulation too.

Never! LOL. Seriously I work at a doggy daycare and chocolate labs are the most out of control. I don't know why but the yellows and blacks aren't as bad. All dogs do however wind down as they age and I hope for your sanity she slows down for ya alittle by year 3 or so. Just make sure you get her some excerise daily so she doesn't bounce off the walls in your home. You have a high activity dog on your hands.

I have a relative who has a lab and he is 12 years old and he never calmed down. He did just a tiny bit b/c hes old but he still has high enery. They need long walks and i know some ppl dont have the time for that but even just a 20-30 minute walk and some play time later can help. Playing fetch is the easiest way for both of u. Just throw the ball for awhile and the runing back and forth gets alot of the energy out and plus u can just stand or sit in one spot. I do that alot for my shephard puppy. She gets tired after awhile and falls asleep later . Shes 11 1/2 months. I cant walk her alot because my neighborhood isnt safe so I just play with her. Playing with them even for 20 minutes or so means the world to them. And yes u can give her a job to do but i live in the city so giving my puppy a job to do everyday is kinda hard. Tho ive found that putting her through classes at PetSmart does help alot. Or even walkin her up and down while I shop. Thats like a walk because im there for so long that she get a 30-40 minute walk out of it while seeing other dogs. It actually drains her out. You can also find little ways to make them feel like theyre helping u. Hide a bunch of treats in the yard or around the house. They love that. It doesnt seem like it but its somewhat challenging for them so it drains their brains and they get tired. I hide like 20 treats for her and i help her find one or two and then she gets the idea and searches for more. Thats a good idea to try. Its fun for the dog and easy for u. Dont get me wrong, they really do need their walks but if u gotta cut it shorter than 45 mins. then playtime (fetch and treat finding, ect) and attention is a must. Plus once your puppy gets used to just the walk and little activities like mine did then they just become so appreciative when u give them a little extra. Fixing does help some dogs but not all and breeding does sometimes too b/c they do become motherly and do settle down. Dont breed her just for that or fix her just for that reason tho. I fixed my shephard pup hoping that she'd settle down and she did a little bit but i regret it so much now becuase i did it fot the wrong reason and now i wish i could breed her. Give your puppy some time tho. Puppies are always hyper just like toddlers. They can go through stages. Dont make any permanant decisions yet until youre sure that the hyperness is part of your puppy's character (like mine). Waiting a couple years is a good idea. She could change.
