I've heard this before and I think it is synonymous with the Irish, but I don't know why. A friend jokingly sent me an IM that closed with "Laddy" and I wanted to respond in kind...the first thing that came to mind was "Faith and Begora".

Begorra is a euphemism or alteration for the phrase "By God." (It would be similar to saying "heck" instead of "hell." ) It can be used on it's own - "She's a lovely piece of land, begorra." So "faith and begorra" is just a mild oath - maybe a little stronger than something like "merciful heavens." And yes, very Irish!

It is usually just an expression of astonishment, either sincere or just for show.
