Check his paw and see why it is red. Is he bleeding? Did he step on something? Is something embedded in his foot? Make sure and check between the pads as well. If it is a nail problem you can use some liquid bandaid to make it stop (dont let him chew it).

Go ahead and give him a bath and if the bleeding is excessive after the bath get some plain or corn flour and pack it on the nail try and stop him from licking the wound for as long as possible or until the bleeding stops.

If it is the nail and nails were recently cut maybe it was cut a little too short. If so vet has some stuff you can purchase. I noticed somebody else already put something about flour and cornstarch. That might help just as good as the stuff the vet has. It is yellow and powdery looking.

You can get rid of the blood with peroxide on a cotton ball it doesn't sting. It will stop bleeding when the dog's blood pressure goes back to normal. I would'nt worry about it too much, as long as the nail is still there.

After you give him a bath put some vasiline around his nail it will keep him from bleeding to much. Make sure he doesn't catch his nail on the carpet.

After you give him a bath, put some corn starch on the nail. That will stop the bleeding.

Your pup probably scratched his paw on something or maybe got his nail stuck into something outside.

You can check out this website for more information if it isn't his paw and his nail:

I'd suggest giving him a bath though to clean it up and wait for a little while and see how it goes and if it gets worst and continues to bleed, consult a vet.
