The whole "global warming" and cooling thing is actually cyclical, and we humans have nothing to do with it. We are now coming out of a "mini-ice age" that lasted several hundred years. The slight warming we have seen in the last 50 years is a result of this.
A true ice-age can last 100,000 years or more. No one can tell you for sure when one is coming, it might be tomorrow, or it could be another 500,000 years. Also, the temperature difference in an ice age and a warm period is only a few degrees. This is, however, enough to cause harm to a few plants and animals who are unable to adapt.
The most likely cause of an ice age would be something catastrophic, like the eruption of the mega volcano below Yellowstone National Park, or a giant meteor hitting the earth. If either of those happen, we won't have to adapt to the ice age, we will be killed by the after-effects of the disaster.

Depends on who you ask. Anywhere between next week and 10,000 years from now.
