Beyond the 10-15 that you can read about as easily as a Web Search, there are 100s of others that most people don't know -- including about 7 million New Yorkers. The Brooklyn Museum for one, is a world-class structure that's the 3rd best art museum in New York -- and THAT is saying something. In fact, it might be 2nd behind the MMA. The art, and American art is fantastic, the Egyptology there is awesome, as it actual homes (!) from colonial America, restored and INside the place. Depends on your age, or what your group is interested in... but, you really have to investigate these as NYC is very mid-town Manhattan oriented marketing-wise (since most of the hotels control the tourism industry and it doesn't have a real Visitor's Bureau... but a clubby-type promotion of attractions that PAY for membership to be promoted, etc.). Tourists get caught in that loop. They even usually miss something like America's 1st capitol building at Federal Hall (off of Wall St.). The Naguchi museum in Queens would be on page one, if it were in Philadephia for example -- in NYC, its 100s of attractions down the list, if presented to visitors AT all!

The Met. You can spend a week there and not see everything. There is a subway stop at 86 and Lex. which is called the museum mile. Also recommended are the Whitney, Guggenheim, and Museum of Modern Art.

The Frick is a beautiful museum, it has an indoor garden and each room is set up like an old fashioned house.

I would say the Guggenhiem, there are only 5 in the world. My husband and have made it to three. Any museum you pick in NYC is good.
