If he talks about it all the time, he is probably lying. Heard this on the radio a few years ago....according to FBI records, for every person that is/was a SEAL, Recon, SF, etc, there are 300 people that claim they are/were. I've met a couple actual SEALs (in the military, so I know they're the real deal) and they don't bring it up much, its no big deal to them. I've met several wannabes and all they do is throw that around, "I was a SEAL, I was a SEAL"

I've known many a seals. They tend to have tons of energy stored up, but aren't the assholes you might expect out of someone that is trained to kill and such.

Furthermore, you can bluff him with no problem. Introduce him to a "friend" of yours that was a "seal" but got out in say 94. Your friend now recruits seals and spec ops soldiers for contract jobs in Iraq and worldwide.
With that presentation, your relative should either cower from meeting this person, if he's not a seal, or b-meet him and try to cover his bluff. So make sure your friend reads up before doing this.

Also ask where he is stationed, Seal teams are based out of Little Creek Virginia and San Diego California, at least that was where they were when I was in. Also ask him what BUDS stands for, it means Basic Underwater Demolition School, if he can't answer that in half a second he is bogus.

It matters because there are tons of jerk offs out there trying to claim honor and respect they didn't earn and should be called out and embarrassed for it. In chat rooms almost everyone who is in the military claims to be a sniper, I have meet 5000 of them already. While I was not a sniper I know about the training and weapons used by snipers and I can trap them in a lie in about 45 seconds every time. IF you want the respect and honor go out and earn it. I despise fakes.

ask him for his class number. this number is pounded into their heads during training and they never forget. And how is he portraying himself? if hes acting like a tough guy movie charactor hes most likely a fake. but if hes mature sensible and adult like about it and non braggadocio about it he might be(qualities of a real SEAL). I am retired navy (non SEAL) and still have some friends on active duty who might be able to find out for you. do you know if he is even in the NAvy?

First off, why would it matter? And if it truly does then simply ask him to see proof, If he is no longer in then it would be on his DD214, or some old orders, or old awards, or his certificate of training, there are a hundred different ways he could prove it and a real vet would still have them.
