I'd take the vacuum.
Then when anyone asks, you can say your husbands Valentines Day gift "Really Sucked".

You know your budgetary limits and what you think he may be able to treat you with...however, the things you mention are things that I would class as an "any day" type gift. Besides, both of them are probably things he is expecting you to ask for.
Why not go for the out of the ordinary, perhaps something that both of you will get a special treat from...eg: reservations at a beautiful classy hotel in the area and dinner, movie, play, casino etc. A room with a big jacuzzi or hot tub, wine or champagne during a soak, candles all around...room service breakfast in the morning.
Your hubby sounds sweet...I'm sure whatever he gives you will be special...enjoy!

Well, if this isn't your first valentines day then you should have made it clear before, this is not the time for practical work tools. It is for Romance. Explain to him because he really doesn't get it. Tell him you can get the tools later, but not as a valentine gift. Explain it isn't how much the gift costs but the thought he puts into it and that you want him to act like he is wooing you again. Sarcasm might go over his head.

I remember my mother telling me how, when she was young, they had jokes about it on Valentine and Mother's days, about husbands who bought them saucy pans and sets of dusters; I do hope yours was the same kind of a joke?
If he was serious, why, just give him a screw driver on a Valentine, and there is that service that accepts bought things back, just cash the vacuum cleaner or the washing machine and keep it!
So, opt for whatever is more expensive.

I'd say go with the washing machine. I'm not sure what a vacumn cleaner is.
Did you mean vacuum?

He is a regular Don Juan. Take the washing machine it is more expensive, make sure you claim it at divorce court.

Well, I guess he could get you NOTHING. Gosh, I wish my husband was that romantic. All he ever gets me is diamonds, flowers, gold jewelry, etc. You are so lucky!
(Can you hear my sarcasm?)
Just tell him he's dead if he gets either of those for you.........
