You may want to take her to the vet and get her anal glands checked. That may consitute for the licking.

As for the kennel - she may be bored. Take all the padding out and put in ratty old towels. I bet she doesn't sleep on them anyway but tears them up. I house sit for a person who's dog has a great doggie bed in a HUGE kennel in the basement. He tosses around the doggie bed and sleeps on the concrete! LOL.

She'll be okay w/o the bed, and she'll be warm. Put a few toys in there w/ her. Try a Kong and stuff those treats in nice and tight so she has trouble getting them out. That will keep her occupied for a while. Play some light music also.

If you're able to exercise them regularly that will help greatly.

Good Luck

All dogs lick their private parts, it's just their personal way of cleaning themselves.

Maybe I'd check with the HSS and see what they would suggest or ask if this behavior is normal in this type of bread or in most puppies that they foster.

As far as the scratching, maybe I'd consider looking into getting her nails trimmed.

I agree with what a user posted about getting a stuffed animal and putting it in her crate, she may be lonely and want some attention.

All the dogs I've ever put in a crate at night have scratched at the bottom of it and whined all through the night. I added toys in which they could chew on and play with. I would suggest noisy toys because that would keep you up all night also. I'd suggest a toy such as a soft stuffed animal that doesn't squeak or make noise or a hard rubber dumbell made for dogs, all my dogs have absolutely loved them!

It will take time to get her to realize that is her sleeping place. Just be patient and the best of luck to you!

I don't know if its a habit but, I'm sure its a sign of dominance. My Saint loves to lay in the dog door tunnel where he can prevent the others from coming in or going outside. He is telling them he is in control. Until I show up that is, then he takes off out the door. It has been a problem because the other dogs cant get out to eliminate. I've found a wet spot a few times. He knows I cant reach him either (the tunnel is about 8 ft long and has a dog flap at the outside of the house and one about mid way to prevent wind and cold from coming in. I think I am getting a shock collar until he gets out of this "habit"

These aren't bad habits. She's just being a dog, and a bored one at that. Does she receive enough mental stimulation during the day? Is there a toy or stuffed animal in the kennel with her at night?

That is a normal thing for an animal to lick it's privates, that just means that they are cleaning themselves. She probably does not like being left alone, put a stuff animal in there with her to make her feel safe.
