Yes your mother can come with you; in fact, it is preferred for children if they are anxious. Would love to tell you that it won't hurt, but the truth is the pain level really depends on your veins and the skill of the phlebotomist. Here is one tidbit of advice that might help. I know it is hard especially if your already apprehensive, but if you relax when they stick you, it is much less painful.

There's nothing to be scared of. You can take your mom with you as well. The first thing they do is put a rubber band around your arm which will feel a little tight. Then the nurse will draw the blood by sticking a very tiny needle into your arm. The important thing is to not wiggle around. Be very still. Turn your head away from the arm that the needle is going into so that you don't have to watch. You might feel a pinching feeling when the needle goes into your arm. It's not that painful. If you feel that you have to cry then go ahead and cry. People will understand. It all takes less than a minute so if you want you can start counting in your head
to help occupy your time.

I used to get this done once every week or two. My doctor told me yesterday that I don't have to anymore so now I can just use my vast knowledge and experience to council the young.

Yes, Your mom can go with you of course. It will pinch just a bit if you are calm and relaxed. If you are tense and nervous and upset it will be harder for the technician to find a good place to take your blood. The more relaxed you are the quicker and easier it is. My 14 yr old just realized that. She had to have a ton of tests done because they thought she was diabetic. She used to get so upset and nervous she would FAINT. It was awful. Her doctor gave her a prescription for some cream that would numb her skin before the tests...we didn't end up using it, but it did giver her confidence and she sailed through the tests!! Talk to your doctor and be honest about how you feel. Also make sure you tell the technician...they will help you thorough it if they are good at their jobs and care about their patients. Above all RELAX it really isn't that bad at all!!! Best wishes.

Hello
Having a blood test might not hurt you ask the lab if they can use a butterfly needle to draw the blood. A butterfly needle is small but can do the function of a regular needle. The smaller the needle the less pain involved.

Ask your mom hopefully she will be able to go with you. (Hope she does)

Good luck and I hope things work out for you.

awww yes ofcorse your mum can come with you. Hey listen it hurts a little but you will soon forget the pain. just don't look and close your eyes and squeeze your mums hand. I was terrible for needles, i bearly couldn't even go in the room i was having my needle. i used to pull my arm away from the nurses hand so she couldn't put the needle in lol but when it was over i realised i made a fuss over nothing. So i think you should be fine and hun dnt worry k? aww lol i hope it all goes well and remember to relax. :) xx

Just a little.
If you are distracted by something else. It is no worse then a mosquito bite.
So bring your mom, and if you have a little sibling then it is even fun, you can exaggerate your pain.
If you think you are in a bad situation, ask about a five hour glucose tolerance test.
One good thing, you don't have to study

:)I know exactly what you feel, but i can tell you it is almost painless if you don't loOK at it! what i do is to look away and smell a cotton with some alcohol on it since i get dizzy when i see blood! But if you do as i tell you it would be ok
Try to be relaxed that way it is easier to find your veins, if you are too nervous it is more painful!

they are practically painless, just look in the other direction.

To be healthy, we sometimes have to endure a certain amount of pain. Ironic, isn't it?
