no, shingles is virus associated with chicken pox. Mostly in older people. Shingles can lay dormant for years. It can be painful, and found rooted in the nervous system. Stress can be it on, as well as certain medications. They can leave scars just chicken pox.
My daugther got chicken pox at three wks. old. Five years later she had shingles when the school had a bad case of chicken pox. The doctor said her immune system was down due to allergies.

Shingles is a virus, and can be contagious if the person has sores that are open and you come into direct contact w/ those sores and you have not had chicken pox. C pox and shingles are caused by the same virus. But generally if the person keeps the sores covered you should be OK.

Definitely not. But....if you have not had chicken pocks, then you could get that. Shingles is just another form of Chicken pocks. Anyone with shingles should stay away from newborns, the elderly and people with AIDS. I had a case of the shingles afew months ago and that's what I was told.

"A person with a shingles rash can pass the virus to someone, usually a child, who has never had chickenpox, but the child will develop chickenpox, not shingles. A person with chickenpox cannot communicate shingles to someone else. Shingles comes from the virus hiding inside the person's body, not from an outside source."

I don't think so. Shingles is cause by the chicken pox virus that has already been in your system. When you get chicken pox your body fights the virus by producing antibodies. It makes you better but the virus will still be there in your system, nesting in your nerves. When you get immunocompromised for some reason (old age, anabolic steroid use etc) the virus returns as there's no more antibody to fight them. as it nested in your nerves, you'll get patterns of blisters similar to the route of the nerve affected.
So, to put right... you get chicken pox from other people but shingles.. you get it from your previous chicken pox..

Oh.. maybe I'm wrong. I know that it is contagious but I believe that you'll get chicken pox if you get in contact with someone with shingles. Btw.. I WAS in med school...

If ida a is in med school, ouchy. Go work on a infectious disease unit and see if the nurses put on PPE when touching shingles. If the scabs are not complete it is HIGHLY contagious; I've seen it spread from person to person.
