That chart is a god damned liar

Similar charts in the states suggest that people almost 6'4" should weigh 190 lbs or less (13.6 stones rounding up)...

Due to a recent illness of the large intestines I've starved down to 14 stones and I feel and look emaciated. To lose 7 more lbs I'd have to start shedding a significant amount of healthy tissue.

These charts are dated, largely inaccurate and based on a time and examples of the human physiology that fail to consider the advantages of healthy bone and muscle mass.

If you can do the conversions from lbs to stones I'll tell you how much you should weigh according to the American Dietary Society. For men the first 5 feet equals to 106 lbs, and every additional inch over that is an extra 6 lbs each. Therefore at 5'10" your ideal body weight would be 166 lbs plus or minus 10 lbs for frame variance. Hope that helps.

Ideal weights are a load of rubbish. As is BMI. What is far more important is sub dermal fat level, body fat content, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility and strength. I'm officially overweight by a lot of charts (including BMI), yet in medical tests I have a top athletes endurance, cardiovascular fitness, strength etc. I am not just fit, I am extremely fit and healthy - yet by weight watchers or whoever else's definition, I should loose about 3 stone. If I did that, my strength, and health in general, would deteriorate. So don't pay any attention to them. It is possible to be officially "overweight" and still run half marathons, do a lot of mountaineering, have an amazing strength to weight ratio, and be a lot fitter than almost anyone who is their "ideal" weight. Also, a lot of top athletes are officially "overweight" - and in fact Tom Cruise is "overweight" by most charts...

NO that's impossible. That is about 112lbs. I looked your weight up on the BMI it says 132lbs-167lbs or 9.5 stones to 12 stones. Remember muscle weighs more than fat. So if your an athlete it may be different. I would say 9.5 stones is to low you would look like a stick with no muscle go for 10 stones that's about 143lbs which is healthy.

You must have read the same chart as me, I should be 7 stone 11. I figured that I can either amputate a limb or starve (I'm being sarcastic by the way!), What do you think ?

No, that isn't right. At 5ft10, you should weigh between 9 stone 3 pounds and 12 stone 6 pounds depending on your frame size and amount of muscle mass.

HTH : )

Is it a chart from a hungerstriken country in Africa? Then it is probably a little too ambitious.
