"Desde que tenía ..... años."

"Tenía" literally means "I used to have," which is why online translators aren't very accurate. You must use the word "tener" which is "to have" and it has to be in imperfect tense in order to indicate a past age.

I hope this helped

There are a lot of ways to express this. One way is:

I love watching movies since I was 10 years old - Me gustaba ver peliculas desde que tenía 10 años.

And a whole lot more ways. Some of the answers above are pretty good.

The verb "to be" means a lot of thing.

To be - Ser, estar, tener años (age)

"since I was .... yrs old" must be translated "desde que tenía ... años" also "ya que yo tenía... años" it deppends on the context.

because "since" means "desde" and "ya que"

The verb "to be" has different ways to be used.

Was = estaba, era

In this case WAS could be translated as TENÍA:

Since I was 5 years old... = Desde que tenía 5 años...
