I need a cheap wedding favor to give at my wedding. I thought to give business card shaped magnets to each guest. The magnet would be decorated like our theme and would say our names, a saying, and our wedding date.
My fiance said it was a dumb favor. He said people are going to think we are really really cheap and what are ppl gonna do with a dumb magnet. I liked it cuz it is useful, not something u just throw away or lose. If i got a magnet, i would put it up on my fridge.
What do you all think. It is really a tacky gift as he said?

I like it, and like you said, it would prolly actually get used instead of trashed on the way out! god my family keeps magnets forever cuz they are always useful and you never know when somethin might need to go up on the fridge! I say go for it, its a cute original idea that might actually be worth the trouble!

a magnet is perfect, everyone would use it. I know i got a few different types of wedding favours and i mus say...i dont know where they are...they were just useless. Some give out candy hearts in a lace bag, or chocolate bars with your pictures on them, bubbles are good thing as well and cheap. Wedding favors are cheap looking, they are not something you spend a load of money on, as long as it says the date you were married and have your names on it, it really doesnt matter at all.

I have never heard of magnets as favors, but I have seen them sent as "save the Date" reminders for the wedding. A friend of mine did not have alot of $ for her wedding, so she had small pots filled with live flowers in the bunched together as the centerpieces for the guest tables (one for each seated guest) Guests took them home as favors, and there was no problem of what to do with left over centerpieces.

don't give out magnets! i think that is tacky too! hhaha but hey i've been researching "affordable" favors too. you can give out these coasters that allow you to put your picture inside or it will have the wording: thank you for making this a picture perfect day for 1.20 each. or you can buy little favor boxes for like .30 and fill them up with small candy. oriental trading is a favor company that has many of those. check it out. i dont remember the exact website but i'm sure you can yahoo it.

My wife and I kinda did the same thing for our wedding and the guests loved it! We went to Michaels and bought some pre-cute wooden hearts. We spray painted each one as close to the brides maids dresses color as possible (which happened to be a deep red). Then we took a white paint pen and wrote each guests name on it as we know them (ie, grandma, mom, Brian, etc.). These were dual purpose for us. We used them as not only our favors, but also the seating cards for each table. So instead of using a cheap table tent with their name on it, this was unique. Then of course we just bought a strip of magnets and stuck them on the back of each heart. I can honestly say that I've seen our magnets on every guests' house that we've been to since. I think you have a great idea! You don't have to use this one, but make it unique to your own. Best of Luck and congrats on the engagement!!!

It's what you want. My cousin gave us soap shaped like fall leaves.
You can make other favors also, you can make that your main thing, but then give the center piece to the person at the table who's birthday is closest (either before or after) to your wedding date. Then you've given out a second favor.
Or
You could have a mini-game, my other cousin did this. They had little favors at the table but then they did this 'trivia' game... which ever table got the most right answers each got the prize.
It's your wedding and it's what you want. Not everyone will be happy no matter what, so instead of trying to please them try to please yourself!!

I don't think it's tacky, but I don't know how many people are really going to want to use a magnet with your wedding date on it...I wouldn't use one, even if it was from a close friend. Maybe try some pretty chocolates or votive candle holders. They can be pretty inexpensive and it's more likely that people will use them. I really don't think favors need to be personalized...in fact, the better ones usually aren't!

I think it is a nice idea ! You could write "THANKS FOR SHARING OUR SPECIAL DAY WITH US ! " and then your names and the wedding date.
It is your wedding and most everybody knows how expensive weddings are anyway, and that everyone always is trying to find the most financially effective way to have a still really nice wedding, so if they are real friends, they will appreciate the fact that you even cared enough to do anything.
You could add perhaps a small sprig of Baby's Breath to one corner of the magnet, or even a small bud or leaf or ribbon in one of your colors to dress it up abit more without alot more expense.
Please yourself and don't worry about what other people think.
Good Luck and congratulations!!!

My sister made chocolates for her favors....she bought bulk chocolate at the supermarket, melted them down, and put them into molds. Then she wrapped them in colored plastic wrap and tied pretty ribbons on them. they were very nice.
My husband and I made CD's for our favor. It didn't cost that much, just the cost of the blank CD's, paper, and jewel cases. We then burned the songs off of songs we had downloaded or owned on CD's we purchased. We chose songs that we used in the wedding (first dance, father/daughter), and other love themed songs of different genre's. My husband then designed the cover of the CD with pictures. It was time consuming, but cheap, and everyone said they liked them. My sister still listens to our wedding cd, and we've been married for almost 5 years.

The magnets are perfect - they're useful and they remind people of your day. I'd definitely say they're better than a box of chocolates (you eat them and they're gone) or potted plants.
Businesses give out magnets because people use them! I have a co-worker who said that her friend gave out magnets for her baby shower and she still has hers after 20 years.
Go with the magnets. They're more original than the cliche candles (I don't use mine) or candies.
