I'm new to the world of dentures [uppers AND lowers]. Bottoms are pretty tight, but tops are a bit loose. I'd like to know what others in my position reccomend as a denture adhesive.

Thanks for the help!

It's usually the uppers that stay tight due to the suction from the palate of the mouth which helps hold it in place. You may need an adjustment if it's falling out on you during eating or when you speak. The use of the muscles in your cheeks may be pulling it down. Have the dentist check it for this problem. When you go in to see him, please make sure not to wear any dental adhesive that day so the denture can be checked easier. It's great that your lowers is staying put, that's the one most people have a problem with. As for adhesive I always recommend Fixadent or Polygirp. Try both to see which will work best for you. But do call for an adjustment appointment. Good luck!

Heather is right. Don't screw around with adhesive, have a reline. It is probably included in the fee for your new dentures because there are always adjustments needed for the best fit.
Don't become a slave to adhesives - you don't have to. The dentist can help you out and the outcome will be MUCH better.

The best way to get used to new dentures is to wear them and to wear them comfortably they must fit correctly- your dentist is the only one who can do this for you.

Do not begin to rely on adhesives at this stage in your denture career. But as time goes on and you feel the need to experiment- buy sample sizes as each user of adhesives finds a different product to work best for them.

Personally for the times I use a little adhesive- big social events and such- I use fixodent powder- it holds well and is easy to clean up out of my mouth and off my denture.

Since you are new to the denture world I think Heather is right You probably need a reline or adjustment since the gums have healed and shrunk.
