Get the bureaucrats to drop that "no child left behind" crap and concentrate on the ones that want to learn. We, now, are just creating societies new leeches. because we walked them through Sheol age, they will expect, and are conditioned, to be shown the rest of the way. I'm moving to Sweden.

The quality of teachers can increase the quality of education in the inner-city schools. It doesn't fall full load on the teachers shoulders either.
All of the education in the world starts AT HOME. If the guardians of the children don't show an importance of education in the child's life, then there won't be an extra incentive for the child to pay attention in school. Teachers need to vary their strategies in showing that they want to keep the attention of ALL the children in their class.
It will take so much dedication to achieving quality education in the schools. From teachers, parents, school boards, ALL of them together have to try and make a change. PLUS, all that hog-wash the government was talking about "no child left behind," what a freakin' joke.
Teachers need to vary their strategies in showing the children that they want the childrens respect just as much as the children want the teacher to respect them. It's a psychological battle that teachers need to learn to be masters of, masters of every childs mind in the classroom.
It's tough, and it's easy to say because I am not a teacher, although I will be one day (I am 26, have to be a massage therapist first :)!) These are just the views of someone looking on the outside, and doesn't really know too much about the inside.
Please take what you like from my statements, hopefully you can find it within yourselves to come up with the correct way of achieving your goals.

I think that we should go to a voucher system. Parents would be given vouchers for the value tax payers are giving for each child's education. The parents get to chose which school is right for each particular child. Different levels of school, high school, elementary, middle, may require different values.
This forces the school systems to be competitive. To provide the best services at the least cost. Unfortunately, most of our tax dollars go to administration not education. Many private schools offer a better education at a lower cost. I do not believe that it is unreasonable to ask public schools to do the same.
Many feel this would give the rich an unfair advantage regarding education. They all ready have it. They already send their children to schools of their own choosing. I think we need to give this option to the working class and the impoverished.
Another thing this would allow is for schools to be focused on education not crime. If a young person cannot adhere to the rules. Parents could be required to find a new location. Schools could be opened for the "discipline-ly" challenged.

I teach in the inner-city schools and the behavior of some children is horrible! We need to get the parents involved and to care what their children learn and do to disrupt the class.
