Hello,
I would say instinctual rather than clever. When I was pregnant with my daughter; my spayed female cat became quite protective of me and would wrap herself around the bottom of my belly when I had my afternoon nap. After my daughter was born she would sleep under her crib. She even went so far as to come and alert me if anyone went into the nursery. Cats are very soulful, protective and maternal...even the males. She's embracing her family.
Blessings of the day to you and yours.

Cats can smell the changes in your body as well as hear the baby when she lays on you. Your body temp is also warmer while you are pregnant and all cats love a warm lap or belly in the winter time. The cat I had when I was pregnant loved to sit on me until the baby started kicking when the cat purred loudly against my belly. The cat would jerk back and look at my stomach which of course got me laughing, so the baby kicked more, which made the cat react more; and this went on until the cat got mad enough to get down or I couldn't breathe anymore and had to set the cat down.

We have four children and our cats have always become even more affectionate towards me when I was pregnant.
In fact when I was pregnant with our first child we always joke that our cats new before we did.
They all seemed to want to be near me all of the time.
So I wouldn't say that your cat is doing anything out of the ordinary...cats just seem to sense these things.

I doubt she can sense you're pregnant. Maybe you're sitting down more now and she has time to sit with you? Maybe YOUR hormones have changed and you're showing her a little more affection. That goes a long way to a cat, and she could be returning the favour.
Quick word of advice - be careful about toxoplasmosis - very dangerous to unborn babies (though i am sure you are already aware of this.)

Perhaps, while pregnant, you are releasing pheremones or hormones that she, as a cat, smells and recognizes from when she was in her mother's womb. My cat did the same thing with my wife. Prior to my wife's pregnancy, my cat wanted nothing to do with her. When my wife became pregnant, my cat has become her new best friend.

Cats are actually quite thoughtful at times. They seem to know when something is different and will try and help. My cat (I have a maine coon) will not leave my side when I am ill or in a great deal of pain. But when I am happy and ok, he lives his life.

mY cat become more clingy with me with my first pregnancy. She was always sleeping on me even if it was the side of my hip!
When the baby was born she even took to sleeping in the crib-my daughter didn't like sleeping in the crib so she slept in her car seat. It is normal for your cat to act this way. I really enjoyed it when my cat did that. It show she really cares for you!
