The general rule of thumb is for the first 5 feet the allowance is 100 lbs and then an additional 5 lbs for every inch over that, for a female. That taken into consideration, seeing as the 11 year old is only 3 inches shy of 5 feet I'd say she's good right where she is. Especially at that age when the major growth spurts start going on.

Hello, I personally think that your niece is not obese or overweight. To show your sister that she not obese I found a website that you can input her age, weight, and height. I put in the data you put up and according to the site she is at a normal weight. It also gives you details on what the results are. I this website helps you out.

I have always heard that ideal weight is 100lbs for 5 feet and 5 lbs more for every inch over that. So a person who is 5 feet 2 inches tall should weigh about 110 lbs. Her weight is just right where it should be for her childs height. Kids always look chubbiest just before they have their growth spurts. Please make sure she does not put the idea in her childs mind that she is overweight as it will affect her the rest of her life. I know this from experience.

At 4'9" and 84 pounds, that's a BMI of 18.2. I know that BMI is controversial and some think it's a crock, but if a BMI of over 30 is considered obese, and less than 18.5 is considered underweight, then I think it's safe to say she's not obese.

Tell your sister to relax, before the kids notices and gets obcessed with weight problems. Let her be. If she is so worried, enrol her in swimming or some sport. Sometimes, kids just need to get away from the computer long enough for some exercise and fresh air.

Not even close. She sounds very normal. Obese for that age and height would be 200 pounds. Tel your sister o stop watching Jerry Springer. Your niece is fine.

Well, I'm 15 and I weigh 70lbs. (Going to lose 10lbs - hopefully- by Feb. 14) I personally don't think you're sister's child is obese. I mean, my sister's 82lbs and she's 10.

this will give you a BMI calculator, I checked it out at 10 1/2 years old. It said 18.1 which is in the healthy range.
Unless you are mistaken about her height. Otherwise, I can't see any reason your sister would think that.

Not at all...my 10 yr old sister is 4'7, and 109 lbs.... I'd say she's chubby, but not obese. I would tell your sister to relax.
