Since you're asking in a religion forum, I'll first say that shedding your religious superstitions is a good start. Having a basis in reality helps you succeed in life. However, the easiest way to live simply and enjoy prosperity and free time is to work hard early on to get to the position you wish to be. Education is the key.

Practice contentment. I was a commodity trader, industrial electrician, making lots of money. My wife and I made some bad decisions, she came down with multiple cancers and other health issues. I also now am limited in how much I can work. We are pretty destitute, living on charity, getting food from donations, etc. Through it all, God has shown me that I need to be content in whatever circumstance comes my way. He always provides for us.
