OK, some details.
I am a UK 27 year old Male citizen, in a very happy relationship with an American Girl, 25, we both live in the UK at the moment- but after a year together would not normally be thinking marriage alhough not against it.
We want to both move to the US in the next year or so.
I know getting a transfer may be tough, so if I wanted to move and get a Visa to work, is marriage a good solution, would I be able to move immediately and get full work rights or would I have to wait a while? Thanks

Am also confused as since a spouse is an "immediate relative" I gather the process could be quite speedy, can anyone estimate the time it may take from Marriage to being allowed to start work.

Marriage is a very workable solution. In fact, although it does have its problems (in a visa sense), it is often more manageable than than a work visa.

If you marry in the UK your new wife will have to petition for you and you will have to wait until your visa has been granted before you can set foot in the USA. If you decide to come in as fiance and marry in the USA, the petition will take about two weeks and then you wait for an appointment at the embassy, which may be three or four months. Your visa is good for, I think, six months and is only good for one entry. Once you are here, you must apply for adjustment of status and a work permit. The work permit might take three or four months. The interview for the Green Card is usually about nine months after you apply to adjust status. As part of the process, your wife would have to prove she could support you at 125% of the federal poverty level.

When I came from the UK to the USA, I arrived on the Wednesday night, was married the following Monday (quick ceremony in front of the Mayor) and then filed immediately. We then had a more traditional wedding some time after, once we'd had time to plan it.

If you can get a transfer with your job, it will probably be for a visa which requires you to work for one employer. You can, however, apply to adjust status once you are here so that you can work for anyone you like.

Please do seriously consider getting an immigration attorney. They are well worth the money.

One final thing to think about - make sure all your inoculations are up to date and that you can get a full history from your GP. It will save you a mountain of trouble

Why do you want to move to the US.
It's like moving from the suburbs to the ghetto.
Many Americans have no idea what life is like outside of the US. The government tell them that this is the NO.1 place to be, and they believe it.
You as a UK citizen with a better education, more information and knowledge about the world that is forbidden to most US citizens should know better.
You think Britain is becoming a police state, well I already live in one.
By all means come & visit, be a geust worker for a while. But do not give up your UK rights, the grass is not greener on this side of the Atlantic.
Even if you are as waeltjhy and privaliged as me.

getting married is easier, but it may take a while because your wife may have to petition for you, and it can take upto a year or more before being granted a migrant visa to live and work in the US.
If you move because of employment that can take a very long time depending on your US employers and how fast they submit the papaerwork which can always be denied.

You need tocome across the Mexican border. Just tell them you are Mexican and they will give you a drivers license, college tuition, and a place to stay.NO problemo.

Dont be brainwashed by our politicians. Dont you know that it is both the Dems and Repubs that are working together to ruin this country? They are sucking the life out of us by giving this country away to corruption and immorality. The USA has had it, for greed, power and money designed and implemented by both camps. Dont be blind!!!
