I bought my car last Monday, and the tax is due on the 1st February. My insurance details have come through, but I'm still waiting on my licence (I passed my test on the 17th) and information from the DVLA to say I own the car. What do I need to tax it? When can I tax it, can I do it before it runs out?

I have the MOT certificate, the insurance documents, and a little slip to say it's mine (the guy sent the rest of the form off) is that enough?

You will need the cars MOT, V5 and insurance details. The DVLA documents should be pretty quick in coming in as they seem to be only taking 2 weeks these days. You can tax it anytime as long as you dont drive it if the tax has expired.

You need to fill in a form at the Post Office (used to be a V10). Produce the part of the registration document that you have along with the certificate of insurance, MOT and the fee. A driving licence is not required.

to get road tax you need a copy of the insurance certificate and a valid MOT certificate if the car is over 3 years old. you can get the relevant forms for getting the tax at a major post office or your local Dvla office. you can also check what else you need by visiting the DVLA web site.

you will need a valid certificate of insurance, the MOT (if over three years old) and your log book (V5) or new owner supplement (little green slip) which is valid for only two months. Most larger post offices will tax your car check the DVLA web site for nearest one.

I have had this issue a few times.

What you need are the MOT, Insurance Docs and Log book. as you have sent the log book off to Swansea, you would have kept the green tear off slip (your reciept) from the log book. This will be good enough as long as the date on it is within 3 months.

The form v10 no longer is used, and you have to pay 20ukp(i think) for a replacement log book, the only time it is free is when there is a change of ownership or the address is changed and the old one is submitted.

MOT,Log Book,Insurance certificate, You say you have alittle slip, this little slip will be green in colour and this is your portion of the V5C(log book) this and the mentioned docs are enough to tax your car.
Good Luck and Well Done on passing your test!
