I'd like to purchase it for my son for his 15th birthday. I don't want lyrics that are likely to be offensive to his grandmother or myself.

Excelent question, Joseph C! I want to get him something that he will like, and, at the same time encourage him to learn another language. Unfortunally, his life centers on rap music. My son is very language oriented. Sometimes a parent has to make compromises just to get by. I am open to other suggestins.

Well apart from the obvious Mexican choices like
Cartel de Santa (very cool)
Molotov (you may have heard of them)
Actually these are hip hop groups and I would guess that this is closer to what your kid listens too as "rap" is out, "hip hop" is in. Rap is more like MC Hammer and whatnot. Check out this group, they're my favorite. Cafe Tacuba. They're revolutionary and interesting without condoning violence, gangs, drugs, and all that other "gangsta lifestyle crap". They are a cool blend of rock, a little rap/hip hop and surprisingly.....traditional mexican folk music. They have turned a new generation of kids on to an ancient art form. Absolutely the most popular group in Mexico (with the hip set). Check them out here...cut and paste this link

Have fun! By the way, translations of their lyrics are easy to find on the web as a learning tool. Here is one such site.....

Sorry there isn't much spanish rap that is what you would say.....in good taste for a 15 year old. Although, Don Omar is pretty good. It's reggaeton music though. With a hint of rap. He has a message though. Positive messages. He also has a wife and kids and he loves his family. So thats something to look up too.

On the Internet you can find music en Esperanto, try this site:
Pli ol ducent Esperanto-kantoj de diversaj artistoj.
(More than 200 songs from various artists)
www.musicexpress.com.br/stilo.asp?stilo=36
A search for "Esperanto Lyrics" will give you the words to most of them.
G'is la!

This is the first time I read someone is asking for music in Esperanto. I've downloaded some from this site: http://www.vinilkosmo.com/
I don't know if there is any rap there.
You can also take a look at http://www.kke.org.br/esperanto/muzikaro/index.php
So far, I haven't heared rap in Esperanto. But I like your idea! Good luck!

There are some good groups from Spain, such as, "violadores del verso", "payo malo", "la mala rodriguez", and "nomah". I personally like the first one, and their lyrics aren't offensive, in general talks about social problems, and so on...

Why do you want to give your son ridiculous rap music for his birthday? Can't you get him something useful?
