A lot of times, they also forward your mail so that you don't get the bills and figure it out. So, you don't get mail for a couple of days, hmm... what's up?
You don't get mail for a week, uh oh, something is wrong here!
You get bills in your name from places you didn't order things from? People call to confirm your address for deliveries and it's different from your home address. Sometimes they use your name, etc. but have it sent to a vacant house and pick up their loot there where they don't live to avoid being arrested when someone checks it a week later.

You really won't know until you get a call from a credit card company or all of the sudden your credit cards aren't working.

Best thing I suggest is to monitor your Credit cards and bank accounts on a daily basis and be on the lookout for charges you didn't make.

I would also monitor your credit score daily, if you see any major swings, then someone stole your identity.

One of the first things you will notice is that your credit rating has changed. The identy theives will have obtained credit cards with your name on them and will not pay the bills (obviously) so your credit rating will take a nose dive. You may also get phone calls from collection agencies for stuff you didn't buy.

even that you have done.nothing.and our problem is still going

This has happened to me about 5 times!!! The most recent one was on Monday of this week - the first I knew was when my land line provider sent me a letter asking why I was leaving.....? I phoned them and they directed me to BT who said my land line was being taken over by Carphone Warehouse. When I phoned them, I found out that some little BINT had gone into one of their shops and obtained 2 mobiles using my details and to add insult to injury, had transferred my bloody land line too (presumably to make herself seem authentic!!)
She even insured the phones...............how cheeky!!!!
It transpired the next day that she had obtained another 2 mobiles using my in-laws address too!!!
I would love to know how they can get all these phones and pass credit checks etc..............

You get a bank or credit card statement and get a sense of "I can't remember all this - I must be losing my memory", and then the doctor tells you it's not amnesia, your memory is fine.
